Lumines is truly for PSP what Tetris was for the original Gameboy, and it belongs in the library of any gamer on the go.
If you're reading this, you probably know by now that Lumines' gameplay involves trying to make as many square shapes of the same color as you can using falling bricks, while a horizontal line sweeps across the screen every few seconds and deletes them. It's deceptively simple, but as you play, you will realise rather quickly just how addictive it can become. You'll find yourself cluttering up the screen alot early on, but it will spur you into wanting to get better. By about your third try, when you're getting more used to how it's played, you'll be hooked.
I had heard alot about how Lumines was a beautiful looking game to showcase your PSP with, but once again, I was a skeptic before I had played it. "How good can it look? It's a 2D puzzle game, right?" Once again, I was pleasantly surprised. Each skin in the game is pure digital eye candy, with just the right ammount of animated pizzaz to look great without distracting you. Clearly, no expense was spared in this game's production values.
And this also carries over to the sound and music. Even without headphones, the game is quite nice to your ears. The club-style music will have you tapping your toes while you connect the bricks, and even the little scrolling sounds while you shuffle the pieces around the screen are hypnotic...
Yes, that's right. Playing Lumines will leave you hypnotised. It's easily the best puzzle games since Tetris, and it's a game that belongs in the library or anyone who owns a PSP.
