Official Post-Microsoft E3 Conference Discussion Thread (Use it)

I was really expecting more out ofthe M$ press confrence. That stupid Green 360. WTF?? Yeah, I get the Elite, it has HDMI, and 120 Gig HDD, but this thing, is the dumbest thing I've seen since Fireproof Charcoal. Wow, it's green and fake gold. It looks like a rich guy vomited money into a 360 mold, then let it harden.

And the best they could come up with was a crap Trailer with lousy clips from their games? I mean, I think a 12 year old using WMM would have done better. They couldn't even have the music fade out at the end, instead of it just cutting off? Or could they have synced the video with the beat of the music? As far as game announcements, they did alright, but they were really lacking in the "Effort" dept.

I mean, the whole Halo themesong opening was cool, but I think that this was too halo centric:

And in comparison with assasins creed and COD4, it was somewhat average.

The best games shown were all multiplats, ie Assassins Creed, Resident Evil, and Call of Duty. And Killzone looks better then Halo. :o No price drop. No new sku, just an ugly Halo console. No new games. No MGS. No FF. Nothing. They also pretty much shafted 360 fans with a 2nd rate Gears of War. It was a pretty terrible and tame conference. Seriously, all Sony needs to do is show the Killzone trailer with either a new MGS or FF trailer and they won E3. Microsoft left the door WIDE open for Sony.Carmilla31

In some regards I guess the presentation worked. I'm now interested in AC and PGR, but then again I don't hunt down every bit of info or trailer either so I'm sure it was same old same old to most. I agree that people want to see new things at these events and MS just did not deliver. I also find it funny that the two games that were new (at least I hadn't heard anything before) were both mini/party games. I thought the irony was pretty good.

While I know that none of the charts shown lied, they were definately slanted in MS favor. Only NA sales. Only 3rd party game sales. Also it made it look like there were 18 top 10 games, but in reality some of those could have been counted multiple times over several months.

The Microsoft Press Conference can be summarized pretty easiy

1. We have already sold more games for the 360 than PS3 and Wii combined. Meaning, developers, PS3 is going nowhere and Wii is a first party machine so develop for us. It will be worth your while.

2. This holiday. we will have all three of the biggest franchises in US gaming on our machine. They will be together on our machine only so we expect to own this holiday. Therefore, developers, develop for us because we plan to increase our instal base.

3. We have great new games coming out on our machine besides the big three, including Resident Evil 5. As they stated, they chose a Japanese game as the only game trailer to show that was not for this holiday. Japanese Developers, develop for us.

4. We have sold a massive amount of downloadable content on XBL marketplace. Developers, you can cash in with us there asw well.

5. We have a ton of other games coming this holiday that look great. Rock Band and Mass Effectanyone? Developers, you know where we are going with this.

In conclusion, they did not try to win over Nintendonauts or Sony Defense Force fan boys. They did not make a CGI trailer that would require them to spend $40 million to match in a game. They basically said: we are rolling. We are the leader. We can guarentee you sales if you develop for our machine. It was not even remotely aimed at fan boys, other than the obligatory Halo 3 trailer to keep the buzz up.

I suppose people will say MS did not win E3 because of the lack of bells, whistles, and the typical ridiculous Sony style lies. But I believe they got their message across loud and clear to the audience they wanted.

Agreed, although I doubt this means they don't have anything to show beyond 07. I'd like to think that, for whatever reason, they're holding onto anything they've got beyond this year.
