Indiana Jones selling faster on PS5 than on Xbox and Steam

I've been talking a bit on Pure Xbox today about Xbox's third-party strategy and how putting games on other platforms is finally making sense to me, and these latest estimates from Alinea Analytics seem to align with that as well.

Basically, the analytics firm says that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is selling faster on PS5 than it did on Xbox and Steam, racking up 117.2k sales on PS5 and 91.2k sales on Steam at the six-day mark.

Here's a graph that the company put together to show these sales figures:

"Six days after launch, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle had sold 117.2K copies on PS5 (as of April 23, 2025) and 91.2K on Steam (as of Dec 14, 2024). It’s selling 28% faster despite the initial marketing cycle being over."

In regards to Xbox sales, Alinea Analytics simply states that "Indiana Jones is selling faster on PlayStation than Steam and Xbox" without providing any figures, but mentions that a big reason is probably because just under 5 million players have tried Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Xbox Game Pass, representing an "overwhelming majority" of Xbox players compared to those who actually bought the title outright.

It should be noted that this analytics firm relies on estimates rather than official data, but nevertheless claim their "copies sold" estimates are the "most accurate on the market". They also advise that the data suggests launching games like Indiana Jones on PS5 at the same time as Xbox makes the most financial sense going forward.

"It stands to reason that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would have sold even faster on PlayStation had it launched on the same day as the other versions, when the marketing was in full force.

Xbox is of course looking very closely at this data. We expect that it wants to – and will eventually – launch all its first-party games on PlayStation on day one. It’s been creeping up to it in a bid to not annoy its vocal core fans too much during the transition."

There's a whole lot more to this on the official Alinea Analytics website if you're interested, including a mention of how Xbox Game Pass is "naturally cannibalising premium sales" and why bringing first-party titles to other platforms has become somewhat of a necessity in the firm's eyes.

Hopefully we continue to get sales estimates like this for Indiana Jones and particularly Forza Horizon 5 as the weeks and months roll on, as we're very interested to see how Xbox's third-party strategy continues to fare throughout 2025.

But they also mentioned that it had a lot of GamePass players. What do you make of this news, SW? Are sales a better indication of success than GamePass players? And will Xbox games eventually go Day 1 on PS5 as the article suggests?

What concerns me is that PS only has 117,000 that have played the game. Xbox has had 5 million players that have played the game.

And we know that MAU is the focus of PlayStation and Xbox CEO's lately.

i predict more Day One Xbox games on PlayStation and more Day One PlayStation games on PC as the years go on..

MAU is a key metric of success for these companies.. if that 5 million represents a consistent pool of Game Pass subscribers, that's $100 Million a month in steady revenue..

fanboys like to pretend that Game Pass revenue doesn't exist but having over 34 million gamers paying around $20 a month is massive.. literally around $680 Million a month.. that's more than how much Sony lost on Concord.. and that's consistent revenue, month after month after month; regardless of what releases.. and then ON TOP of that, Xbox is generating full retail sales on Steam and PlayStation during those major launch months..

yet somehow, all this is "bad news" for the Xbox gaming business.. 🙄

Not at all surprising since there are more PS5’s owners then Xbox Series owners. Also Game Pass is available on the Xbox platform so there is definitely that factor as well.

Makes sense to have multi platform games launch on all available platforms on day one to maximize consumer interest. I fully expect that to be a thing.

PS5 has no games (from Sony that is) what a sad state the PS5 is in that MS is keeping it afloat, and what a bunch of dumbarses the Xbox hierarchy has🤦‍♂️

PS5 is unequivocally the best system. The only system where you can play Gran Turismo and Forza. Best 1st party, with the GOTY Astro Bot, and highly anticipated Ghost of Yotai, Wolverine, and Intergalactica. Best exclusives like Death Stranding 2. And on top of that, all third party games. It is simply put, amazing. Sorry to have rekt you on a Friday and ruin your weekend.

Pay full price for a single player game or pay a subscription fee for ~25% the cost to play said game and more of you want?🤔

Sony or Nintendo doesn't need a GP type service with day one games. That shit killed Xbox. Even trillion dollar companies get tide of supporting dying brands through thick and thin. Therefore, it's why Playstation has Xbox games now

At the end of the day, MS is preparing for the transition to the third party. They’ll support the next Xbox system to save face, but if that’s a flop, I doubt they’ll keep continuing it.

Shouldn't we just keep it simple? Playstation gamers are filling microsoft's coffers and microsofts investment in its studios is paying off.... Sony gets to tap into the success as well! Do you think they'll be able to successfully migrate the millions of Gamepass subscribers who play it through Xbox to other platforms? Whether it's cloud or PC?
