Are you supporting PS 5 or XSX or the powerful Geforce 30 series/AMD 6000 (PC) or Switch at beginning of this gen?

Do game at 1440p, so probably would see a difference but just upgraded my ram, motherboard, SSD and cpu so everything runs silky smooth atm. So will probably wait for the 40xx series before upgrading my gpu

@djoffer123: Nothing wrong with that! Especially in this environment these days. 2070s is by no means a bad card and still has plenty of grunt left in it. I typically skip GPU gens and upgrade every other myself. A new gen release doesn't magically render the previous obsolete...game on my friend.

Already have a 3070 and a switch. Just gonna wait for a ps5 pro or when the system has substantial exclusives to warrant a purchase.

I have two Switches and an XSX. Will get a PS5 down the road.

I will either get a RTX 3060 ti when it is available for MSRP or wait until the 4060 ti comes out and is at MSRP and get that. There is not enough reasons to own a console to me, for me to get one, so I am sticking to PC only for now.

Actually regret getting the PS5 so early since there's no must buy games until Horizon comes.

Bought it because it was the hot new thing but haven't used it much after the first few days.

Would've definitely got a Series X over the PS5 if it wasn't so into PC gaming though

@mobius_basic: Exactly the 2070 is still a fairly capable card all things considered and should be fine till availability on the new cards improves. Honestly I went from a 2070 Super to a 3070 and the uptick although nice, was not life altering. Just helps me maintain 140hz at 1440p better than my old 2070s did. But if you game at 1440p or lower and aim for 60fps 2070 is more than enough imo.

As for me picked up both the PS5 and XSX (mainly since they were the hot new thing, and got a decent price for my old PS4 and XOneX). Played the PS5 a lot at begining but have not touched it in months, but that will change now throw HZD is available haven't played the dlc before. The XSX gets a decent amount of use though due to GamePass (I'd argue more than my gaming rig atm as I like chilling on couch and playing on an HDR display, my TV is much better than my monitor).

Just PC. Made an upgrade to a 2080 a year or two ago, so I'm good for another five years.

Maybe. But this year was much more egregious than previously. Given I can still play most games at a solid 1080P120 or 1440P60+ without reducing settings, I'm good for at least a few years more. I could grab a 3060 or AMD alternative in a year or two, or wait until the next generation. There's no pressing need for upgrades or new hardware at present. If I buy anything It'd be a Series S for XBLA/backwards compatible titles, and the general hackability of the hardware itself.

Even if I wanted to spend money on any of those things, you can't.

I had planned on getting a PC this year after saving up a nice chunk of change over lockdown.

But it's to hard to get a good PC for a good price at the moment so I spent the money on a Series X and a LGCX 55" OLED.

Also my daughter has a Series S in her room.

And I have a Oculus Quest 2.

Not only is it damn near impossible to acquire the latest tech right now, but it's pretty darn expensive (the pc stuff, not the consoles).

And frankly there aren't any next-gen games (imo) that really justify getting high end equipment to play them at high settings. I thought cyberpunk 2077 might be that game but clearly it isn't.

I’m sticking with my existing 1070 until the next gen cards; they’re poor value for their performance even at MRSP and the new consoles ended up weak enough that a 1070 will still have legs for years to come if that mining bubble doesn’t burst soon. I’m afraid though that Nvidia/AMD might take advantage of this shortage and mining demand to permanently raise graphics card prices, like Nvidia did with the RTX 2000 series when they had no serious competition.

@Postosuchus: I would argue that, at Msrp (or close to it) both the RTX 3070 and 3060ti, as well as the RX 6800 provide fairly good performance. Honestly if I were you, I would get the RTX 3070 FE from BB for $500 (easier said than done, but doable) and sell your old GTX 1070 for $450/$500. That way you can essentially get a massive upgrade for free and be good for a few more years (assuming your CPU is decent)

It's a bit like this. :-P

@tribesjah: I don’t consider $500 for a mid-range card to be an acceptable price, especially since the 1070 debuted at $380. It suits my needs now and I’ve not had good luck with selling GPUs in the past so I’d rather wait and see what Nvidia’s Lovelace or AMD’s RDNA3 has to offer in terms of improvements price and availability.

I was able to get one on launch day and with Ultimate I'm able to enjoy some great games on PC too. I was one of the lucky ones who actually could complete a build during the 3000 series launch. 10900k / 3090 w custom hard loop for CPU/GPU (originally was looking for an 80 but snagged what I could). Needed to replace my aging 6700k/GTX1080 launch build.

I was finally able to get my hands on a PS5 in the beginning of March but after beating Miles...its a dust collector. I don't mind tho as I know that will be changing before the end of the year.

Can't speak for who your comment is directed towards, but I was talking about non-pc games you "fix". You should also buy those games before you alter them. Just telling you this because if you were on trial for pirating games and I was on the jury, for instance if you had proof you bought a physical or digital Switch title, and then altered it to run better on PC then I would vote to acquit you, but if you were just stealing those types of games I'd find you guilty as all hell.

I'm in Walmart weekly and Target monthly. Haven't seen a single one. Same for their websites. Was able to get a PS5, though.

Same. I check the local WM and GS regularly and they have zero systems of any kind in stock. Nada. Not even older systems. They both tell me I have to get them online now.

@Postosuchus: I understand were you are coming from as I got a GTX 1070 for $380 and still have it and am happy with it. I think the reason most people feel $500 is a good price for the RTX 3070 is because it performs similar to a RTX 2080 TI which cost like $1200 for most of it's existence and the RTX 3060 TI costs $400 and performs like a RTX 2080 Super which was like $700 to $800 commonly. I am talking about MSRP here of course. I just don't think NVIDIA is ever going back to those old 10 series Pascal prices ever again unfortunately.

@latech84: To be fair the 3060ti performs quite close to the 3070 for $400 (msrp of course). The GTX 1070 came out for $380 (once you account for inflation its $420 in today's dollars. So to be fair the 3060ti is cheaper than what gtx 1070 came out for, and the 3070 is oy $80 more. Of course lol this all assumes msrp. And seeing how cards are selling for crazy prices I don't know if even when availability is back, whether prices will come back down. Hell the aib's themselves are charging scalper prices (kinda)

Likely Switch and PC. As long as Nintendo makes good games, I'll continue to buy them. However, I also need another platform because I love Nintendo and the Switch, but there is no way in hell I'm playing online multiplats on the Switch. I refuse to play Fortnite on the Switch, which is why I'm playing it on the PS4 until I finally build a PC.

@tribesjah: All very good points, I did not even think about inflation that is a very good point for sure as well. I don't think they will be at MSRP when they first have good stock back, but am hopeful that eventually in time they will be again but it could be years? I do plan to get the RTX 3060 Ti over the RTX 3070 for the very reasons you mentioned if I can get it one day for MSRP. Thanks for you input and thoughts. Much appreciated.
