Xbox executive says comparing specs is "meaningless"

The No.1 reason specs matter to me is because of Naughty Dog. That's it. I can't wait to see the exclusives they will make for the PS4. Honestly right now they are the only ones who are capable of capitalizing on the outstanding specs, built into the PS3 and PS4. In the end I think both systems will be great. The question is which system will have exclusives that force people who didn't initially want their system to buy them.

honestly, the guy probably is right. I for one am not a huge tech guy, gamer yes; tech savvy... sort of. but the truth is whether or not he is right the way you word a statement is crucial especially when talking to press so as they cannot garble rearrange or straight up misquote you, i personally feel (if i was an Xbox fan) insulted. luckily for me I've always been more into Sony well that's true to say when the ps2 was released and Nintendo really started down the rabbit hole with the GameCube.

Why? Because game devs that are making their game titles for both platforms try to optimize the separate versions for the separate systems the best they can.

In the end, they are still the same game whether it is on the One or PS4.

I never pay attention to any of that technical jargon, partly because it's like a foreign language to me and I have no interest in it, but mainly because it's all about the games and whether or not you enjoy them.

The truth is the gap between Microsoft Xbox 360 and PS3 was not that huge even when you factor in the Blu Ray aspect in. I keep hearing people talk about memory and Terrraflops. The real truth is that unless its a first person game you will get near identical experiences on multiplats. People are wasting their energy talking about PS4 being greater and blah, blah, blah when we have yet to sit with both systems and compare them.

Dude has a point. Majority of people don't truly understand the differences in the specs. For instance can u explain to me the benefit of xboxs esram? How about gddr5s increased latency as compared to ddr3?

Microsoft executive have made me decide to not buy a xbox one, because of all of the crap that they have said sense the announcement of the xbox one.

Can't say this sounds like a confident statement from Microsoft. It's like a hurt schoolboy saying "Well I know how to use it!" in the locker room when he finds he doesn't measure up to the rest of the jocks.

Bummer, Microsoft. Yes, games matter. Yes, specs matter. Your mission is to nail both, not just one.

I like how he compares it to the 16 bit vs 32 bit wars back in the 90s (aka the stone age) when the differences between the XBO and PS4 are much more meaningful. A 120% difference in memory bandwidth is a pretty big difference and can affect how devs approach them.

Yet another damage control statement from MS. This system has flopped in the worst way it can. Execs are jumping ship and they get hundreds of thousands to stay. I just don't understand why choosing the PS4 is just the better option. For me the main reasons that I didn't play Ps3 were, lack of party chat, and constant updates shutting down the online service. Now they have fixed those problems.

There is going to be a difference in they way the games play and look. DDR5 is quite amazing. Sony is actually giving you a system that is next gen while the Xbox One is what the Xbox 360 should have been.

When I was a young'n, and I got a Playstation for Christmas, you should have seen my face. I had a fit, I was so pissed off. What the hell is a Playstation? Some sort of plastic jungle gym for toddlers? Oh, it's a game console? That's fine and all but it can't be very good, it's not even made by Nintendo, Sega, or even Atari -- I've never even heard of these Sony people. It must be crap. Alright, I guess I'll try this "Twisted Metal" game just to make you happy...

How many other tykes were royally pissed when their tech-savvy parents bought them this powerful gaming console? This is the single biggest issue overlooked by the "powerful consoles always lose" crowd: the fact that the most powerful console has often been a newcomer that leaves people scratching their heads. What they ignore is what happens in the generation after the new brand is introduced; the successor to the more powerful console wins. People got to know the new company, they tried out the games, they appreciated the experience that the extra power gave them, so they switched sides when the next generation hit. It happened with Xbox as well -- an unknown Microsoft console? I'll stick with Sony and Nintendo, thank you -- real game consoles! But while the original Xbox didn't win in its own generation, the experience that this little powerhouse provided paved the way for the 360 to sell like hotcakes. Playing Morrowind on the Xbox opened me up to getting a 360.

Of course, they squandered it by releasing the 360 in a broken state, but that's a completely different story. The point is that better specs really have mattered in terms of sales, although this is often trumped by brand recognition.

But suppose for a moment that having better specs really is an anti-sales curse as people seem to be implying. What do the sales mean for your own enjoyment? Unless it leaves the online multiplayer games empty and you love online multiplayer; nothing. Due in part to superior specs, the original Playstation was more fun to play -- the advanced technology even allowed them to take Final Fantasy away from Nintendo.. Due in part to superior specs, the original Xbox was more fun to play -- for example, making it the only console you could play Morrowind on.

Sales aside, more often than not, the system with superior specs offers you as a gamer a better gaming experience. And that's what matters, and that's part of the reason I'm going to go with the PS4.

Yep, peeps telling us what we want is funny.

For my systems (console/pc), I can live without the exclusives, its power i can't.

Of course, most dev's won't really let the PS4 outshine the X-one, the games will be built so they have no advantage over another, PC does get many pluses sometimes when a console games makes it to PC.
But i don't care for many of MS's BS policies, "ELEVEN" xbox 360's i went through (they lasted from 2hrs to 2weeks avg. Only 1 worked like it should, but I traded it up for an elite) its stupid ads, nor for its many softwares i couldn't give a crap about as a PC owner and Gamer.

BTW, that 2hr life for one of my 360's (the first) was on xmas, was great to pull it out and bust some gears of war with my bro... then have the system melt or break down on its ass.

So, the rats are leaving the sinking XBOX ship...

I only have a 360 and one thing ive hated about xbox live is how many damn ads are on the dashboard for a PAID service. Just one of many reasons me and my Live friends pre ordered ps4s; plus we HATE Kinect.
