Star Wars 1313 Could Return, But Not Necessarily As a Game

"It's something we're spending a lot of time looking at."

Lucasfilm has not completely abandoned Star Wars 1313, the mature-themed Star Wars game first revealed in 2012 but later presumed to be dead.

In an interview with Slash Film, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy agreed with the interviewer that the game's concept art looked stunning. She added that Lucasfilm is "spending a lot of time" thinking about how it might be able to bring 1313 back to life.

"Unbelievable," she said about 1313's concept art. "So our attitude is, we don't want to throw any of that stuff away. It's gold. And it's something we're spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to."

Star Wars 1313 was originally announced at E3 2012 as a third-person action adventure game from LucasArts for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game, said to feature bounty hunter Boba Fett as its protagonist, was reportedly canceled in April 2013 when Disney closed LucasArts.

As Slash Film points out, Kennedy's comments could be taken in a number of ways. 1313's tone and themes could serve as inspiration for future projects, possibly the standalone Boba Fett movie. Another option is the project coming back to life as a game. None of this is confirmed, however.

If 1313 does come back as a game, it would need to happen through Electronic Arts, which is now the exclusive developer of Star Wars console games. EA's latest Star Wars game was November's Star Wars Battlefront. Looking ahead, an Assassin's Creed-style action game is in the works at EA, with production on the project being led by industry veterans Amy Hennig and Jade Raymond.

@Shadow4020: Phil Spencer and Peter Moore were casually tweeting about KOTOR last night;)

Glad to see they both love Star Wars and have a sense of humor lol

Please, do not make this a garbage animated movie. If necessary I would be happy for it to be a point and click title, anything but a weak storied animation.

No. Please.... make it a game. I've been desperate for a single player Star Wars action game that's GOOD for far too long. Not even Force Unleashed was able to satisfy that need.

@Xirtahm: Sadly we'll never see a good single player star wars game ever again. Sadly our childhood games are all we have left. R.I.P Star Wars universe.

@Estroncio: Yes. Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast multiplayer alone are worth playing them for, assuming people still play. The singleplayer has lightsaber dismemberment that you can activate that's really cool, but you'll have to look up how to get that working because I think the console command got patched out for some reason. And the devs released the games source code when the studio was closed so that modders can work on it. It also has a VR mod that adds VR to it.

Steam will probably have it on sale soon with the new movie coming out. And GOG has a sale going and may have it on sale too.

@gkmogglemog: Thanks for the info! I already got it on Steam a while ago when it was on sale (payed about 5 bucks for them), but I never actually started it. I'll probably get to it this weekend!

@princetom: Replaying old classics until then isn't going to do much. I played the hell out of the Jedi Knight games back in 2003, and even double-dipped on them via Steam not that long ago.

Hell, at this rate, I'd be okay with full-blown remasters of those to fill the void. Toss in the original Dark Forces while you're at it! :O

1313 not happening is the single biggest disappointment of this console generation. I was so stoked for it.

Haha of course not; Hollywood's creativity field is as dried as the Sahara dessert. It's funny that some games have better story/plot than recent movies.

@cboye18: Why is that funny? Gaming is the future of the storytelling medium.

@SythisTaru: No it's not dude. Video games cannot compare to films as far as narrative goes. Please don't go there.

@jdlok: "Video games cannot compare to films as far as narrative goes" - what exactly is this based on? For a start, movies aren't (and shouldn't be) long enough to tell the kinds of stories you can have in games. The increase in the number of long running, episodic dramas over the last decade seems to be indicative of a desire to tell longer, more complex tales, which is something video games can comfortably accommodate. Games are also able to facilitate user/viewer influence on the story (or parts of it at least).

@jdlok: Yes they can?

There have been a decent amount of games (including The Last of Us) that can give us the same experience that a movie can, as well as let us control it to a certain degree. Saying video games cannot compare to films as far as narrative goes just makes you sound ignorant.

Remember, some people also say video games aren't art, but yet how isn't it?

@jdlok: Just look at half of the modern movies. Enough CGI in there to be called a video game.
