Report: Evolution cost Sony $33M

Yo guys have none of you been checking out the games lately? There's loads of games coming out (alone in the dark, condemned 2, fracture, dark sector, prototype) and when you're talking about just exclusives for PS3 don't forget about MGS 4, FF XIII, Resistance 2, Eight Days, Motorstorm 2, Singstar Vol.2, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Warhawk etc... I'm sure there's something for everyone!! This is LIving.

GO SONY! GO SONY! Sony gonna own 360 and Wii for sure by the end of 2008. TAKE THAT MICROSOFT! All they do is make Halo and Gears of War, if it weren't for those two Xbox would be done for. If Sony can make some killer FPS game to kill Halo once and for all, then Xbox is finished with. I'm sure of it. Looks like Unchartted mught be the GOW killer.

AT LAST!!! GET the GAMES OUT!! Spend money on getting software out there. I bet that poor sod in the Sony Boardroom screaming "More money on software you tight gits!!" must be doing a Jig :)

Motorstorm is awesome, great move for Sony. MS is taking a swift kick in the ass since they lost Bungie, Bizare Creations, and Bioware/Pandemic.

i hope u can play tracks that u beat with all the cars normally not in poper mode and more extra things like time attack

Motorstorm 2 will be awesome. I can't wait. I just hope it will be kinda longer than Motorstorm 1. I got gold in all the races in 5 days (2 hours play each day).

Sony go out of business? I don't see them sucking when it comes to tv's, dvd/bluray players, cellphones, mp3's, laptops, computers, cameras, etc. Nintendo sucked at Gamecube, litterally the worst system last gen. And did they go out of business? I think not. PS3 may be getting S$%T now because of the lack of games, but eventually itll do better. It may never see "first place", but Sony is FAR from dead.

Worth it. Motorstorm was awesome. Just add a little bit more substance to the gameplay and the games will be gret! :D

As more and more exclusives jump the Titanic that is PS3, Sony is trying to secure a few good companies. Everybody in the industry was drooling over what the PS3 would do to videogames, and so far, it has left people wanting. The constant price and system format juggling only reveal that the system is struggling at this point. It is too time consuming and too expensive to develope on, and with only about 6 at most wonderful games to play, it is not driving anyone to purchase it. No single company truly owns a market. Sony thought they did and this is why they are in the position they are in today.

This is a perfect example of why it's not a good idea to buy a game company like that. EA might want to pay attention to this before they buy Bioware. Sony bought the game company, and the Intellectual Property names of the games that they own, but the employees are something that Sony does not own. The two founders--the men who provided supervising management--are now leaving the company!

This seems like a bargain after hearing what EA has paid for Pandemic and BioWare. Oh and regarding Sigil-otaku's message. MotorStorm is a completly different game to GT. GT is a simulation of real cars on real tracks while MS is a thrill ride on made up tracks in made up viechles. Each appeal to different people.

@ itisa87: I wouldn't be so sure, Bioware is a much better company than evolution based on last gen but bioware hasn't had any next gen titles released yet has it? Mass effect does look a lot better than Motorstorm though. I admit not 26 times better but they are a much more interesting company and handle better games (KOTOR, Jade empire, Mass effect etc.). Just look at how much each company was bought for. MS did pay for those to be exclusive and Sony will have payed for half of it's exclusives too, whats your point?

I wonder why they'd bother when GT5 will probably be much better than Motorstorm. Sony should have bought a good FPS or RPG company to set them on top because now MS is coming out with a few more RPG's (Fable 2, Lost oddyssey, blue dragon, Kingdom under fire: circle of doom, Mass effect and more) the PS3 needs to get the RPG market covered again. FPS is owned by MS, racing by Sony, RPG by any (no real winner yet but MS has more), and action games I'm not sure. Doesn't seem to have cost them much and its good to see Sony investing in British talent so it's a good move either way.

Well, I suppose for Sony this is a big purchase. It's a pity that they can't afford to make some more purchases, as the PS3 needs more games.

Some hate motorstorm some like it. I think motorstorm is cool. Playing online is fun. Motorstorm 2 is going to be crazy, imagine more modes, diff weather like snow, ice, rain, and more vehicles. I cant wait for the sequel. $33 aint to bad of a loss. Heres hoping motorstorm 2 will be a extravaganzza fun mud in yourface game that takes you for a hip balling mind blowing joy ride

$33 million?! While that isn't a huge amount, what exactly has Evolution done to deserve that? They made a mediocre Playstation 3 racing game. Wonderful...

They bought a studio that made an "ok" racing game? Unless Motorstorm 2 takes the formula and injects it with some of that good S**& to make it awesome than the acquisition will just have been an "ok" investment as oppose to a good one.

This is nothing for sony. , the ps2 have been selling more game titles then the 360 since the begining of the year. bungie invested alot on halo3, on commercials, burger king, mauntain dew. maybe it paid off the first day, but the creators of motorstorm are are a new company comparing to bungie(DON'T HATE ON THEM). the most important thing is SALES. mario galaxy will sell more than halo 3 in the first day, because there are more Wii than 360s out there. and is rated E. PS3 prices are to expensive thanks to the blue-ray. But it will paid off in the future with HOME comes out, its free and it will be better than xbox live that you have to pay 80 per year for online gaming and downloads.sony invest money for the future games, not just on shooters or taking OTHER exclusives like microsoft loves to do . the gaming industry have change a lot, game producers are making more than hoolywood stars. Series like call of duty 4 will make a lot sells because their game is in every console. NOW THAT'S SMART.

To everyone bashing motorstorm, shut up please, i mean the game was rated a 7.9 by Gamespot and 8.4 by users. Thats especially good for a racing game thats not a simulator. Plus 8.4 by the people that actually play the game is a good freakin score. So before you go all out saying it sucked why dont you look at reviews by people that actually played the game.

not a bad price to pay, even tho motorstorm didnt have many features or game modes i still enjoyed the game alot. and im sure sony has made its money back just on that game alone.so good deal sony

How about I say Sony paid Rockstar more than MS paid Rockstar just to delay the release of GTA V so that the PS3 version can be released at the same time as the Xbox360 version and not look inferior? Yeah this has been a well know "rumor" in the industry.

They just wasted 33 million on a studio that hasn't made anything decent... Another brilliant decision... Why not use that 33 million to research making the PS3 MORE AFFORDABLE???
