PUBG's Xbox One Release Date Confirmed For December

Here's when the popular battle royale game launches on Microsoft's console.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds now has an Xbox One release date. During Paris Games Week, developer Bluehole revealed that the phenomenally popular battle royale game launches in early access for the console on December 12 for $30.

Beginning that day, Xbox One players will be able to play PUBG via the Xbox Game Preview program. Bluehole also says that it's "on track" to release the 1.0 PC version in late December. While the developer is working on both PC and Xbox One versions simultaneously, it notes that each has its "own separate roadmaps" and will differ slightly from one another.

"We're approaching development on Xbox One with the same community-driven focus that we've taken with the game on PC," Bluehole VP and executive producer Chang Han Kim wrote on Xbox Wire. "As a result, the ultimate battle royale experience that fans play on Xbox One will be slightly different than what players know today on PC."

Xbox One players will also be able to purchase some exclusive content in the form of special cosmetic packs. Three such packs will be available to purchase for a limited time for the Xbox One version: the PUBG Warrior Pack, Accessory Pack, and Tracksuit Pack. Aside from these three, Bluehole says it doesn't have plans to offer any in-game purchases in the Xbox Game Preview version. You can take a look at a few of the exclusive cosmetic items above.

Microsoft announced that PUBG would be coming to Xbox One later this as a "console launch exclusive" during its E3 2017 press conference this past summer, but up until today we didn't know when the game would arrive aside from a vague "late 2017." Microsoft is publishing the Xbox One version, and it's been reported that Microsoft is trying to extend the game's exclusivity period on Xbox.

@scotty17: Yes, Dean Hall made the DayZ mod. But playerunknown created the Battle Royale mod for the Dayz mod for Arma.

So, yes, playerunknown started the battle royale craze. Don't be jealous, PUBG is original. It's just a finished product the creator started somewhere else.

@lithus: nothing wrong with pubtoons(fortnite), but compared to pubg it doesnt hold a candle. Xbox paris footage look VERY good! Why more media outlets havent shown it seems strange. As they showed Sony remakes like crazy from that showing.

Seeing that its going to be launched in the preview program, Im curious to kno if theyre going to release it by preview ring? If its for all rings, then its essentially going to be avail to everyone. Seeing anyone can join the program without an invite.

@plus_1: The console preview rings/program is not the same as MS's early access Game Preview program, you will not have to be a member of the console preview program to access games in their Game Preview. Everyone with an Xbox One will be able to download PUBG on December 12th. The only time that might have happened is when MS first launched their early access program, but for at least the last 2 years any game in Game Preview is accessible by anyone with an X1.

@dylan35: you apparently kno nothing of the preview program then. When Elite Dangerous hit the game preview program, only alpha dash preview members (which I am)were aloud to dl it(purchase) at first. Hence the curiosity I have on which preview they mean for this. Im sure it probably is for everyone, at least Id hope so, but since MS is using this title to really show off Azure in gaming before C3, I can see them also putting it out in waves. Tho the hate would be thicc.

@plus_1: MS isn't using PUBG to show off Azure in gaming. Forza's, Halo 5, Gears 4 have all been using Azure as dedicated servers the same way PUBG will. There's nothing being offloaded to Azure in PUBG like it will be in Crackdown 3.

@b00me: no info has been stated that they are or arent offloading any assets to Azure. Only that the Azure is being used, of course server side, but it would help optimize the game tons if they did offload some assets.

@plus_1: What will help optimize the game is running on a console, developers don't have to optimize for a wide range of specs like on PC, and MS is helping them on the Xbox version.

Also, the game isn't offloading assets to Azure, you have to build the game around that type of networking system, it's not something they would add just for the Xbox versionin that short of time. Plus, this game doesn't need it, the environment isn't fully destructible, everything can be ran off of the console or PC. They are simply using Azure on the server side.

@b00me: not true. When Respawn made Titanfall, it was already made when they approached MS about servers. They went with MS for that reason, offloading! Its not as hard as you and maybe others think and with 4 years practice Im sure it can be implemented easier.

When developers of Titanfall approached both Sony and Microsoft, the Xbox group came back to them with a way to run all of these Titanfall dedicated servers. This development allowed the developers push games with more server CPU and higher bandwidth, with more physics, lots of AI, and potentially a lot more than that.

Titanfall’s AI hosting, physics calculations, online match making and multi-player dedicated servers are hosted in Windows Azure. Azure PaaS is being utilized to provide physics calculations and specialized AI to learn your style of play, whereas the PaaS and dedicated servers auto scale to provide fast dynamic content to players around the world on a consistent scale.

@plus_1: TitanFall is a completely different story with a lot larger development team than PUBG's. There is no AI to offload or other features that would benefit PUBG's, it can all be ran locally on the machine it's playing on. There is literally no reason for them to put all of the work it takes into incorporating those networking features in to one version of the game when it's not needed for the game.

I’m always a little hesitant with playing games in early access. I’d prefer the game to be finished, but I guess some can have a good amount of content and stability. Maybe this one is worth playing early.
