Oddworld dev wants to remake Metal Gear Solid 1

British developer Just Add Water, the team behind Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, has written an open letter to Hideo Kojima explaining why the studio is "ideally positioned" to remake the original Metal Gear Solid.

"We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:

1: We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.

2: Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.

3: We really, really want to do it."

The company directed Kojima to its high-definition update of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and its in-development re-creation of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee--titled Oddworld: new 'n' Tasty--as evidence of its abilities.

"We eagerly await your response," the company said.

The proposition is genuine and sincere, the developer explained. "We wouldn't offer if we weren't sincere. We have some big fans here," the company added.

Just Add Water's letter to Kojima is not an out-of-the-blue offer. Kojima recently said over Twitter that though he is not actively looking to remake Metal Gear Solid, he does have interest in the idea.

"Well, if there's some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake 'MGS1', I would love to ask for it," he said.

Why? Was the Silicon Knights attempt not bad enough? Really don't think a remake is nessasary, there is enough Metal Gear coming out to keep even the most rabid fan at bay.

It's not the first studio I would think of, Oddworld and MGS are quite different , but they do have experience with HD remakes. I just hope that Just Add Water does a better job than most who do remakes, because that's starting to feel a bit like movie-to-game projects - you know in advance that it's not gonna be very good. Doing a proper HD remake takes more than to just add water, you know.

To the people trying to preserve the integrity of MGS... I can see where you're coming from. But on the other side, it is the greatest game of all time, and as such it should be experienced! Imagine trying to get a 10 year old in this day and age to sit down and play it on their parent's 55" samsung. I mean Snake didn't even have EYES back in the original.

So... I'm for a remake if they can do it right. Just make sure they keep the original VA :D

@Ayato_Kamina_1 Twin Snakes only changed Gray Fox (Rob Paulsen replaced Greg Eagles). Other than that everyone reprised their roles. The orginal had the VA's under aliases except Hayter, Eagles and Doug Stone.

VA was rerecorded because, according to Hayter, the orginal's VA was done in someone's living room and that Gamecube's soundchip was able to pick up traffic noise. Playstation's chip was inferior and wasn't able to pick that same noise.

I would say that let them remake the original Metal Gear game first (you know, the one that happened in Outer Heaven!) before allowing them to remake MGS 1.

@loopy_101 they could do even more complex stuff today! i mean the game could read all your Achievements/Trophys, how long you've got your system, how long you are a member of PS+/XBL-Gold, which was the last game you played online, it could even use Kinect/PSeye to make a photo of you and make that photo appear in the boss room!

holy crap the possibilities! he could make the Lightbar on the Dualshock flash like crazy, or let your triggers and handles virbate on the XBone in a way that, if you place the controller on a flat surface, it moves in the direction he commands.

since you can hook your XBone up to a TV reciever, it yould just switch to a TV channel and manipulate the programm so you see him floating around in the background or something. or make everyone that appears on the TV show thats running look like a zombie or something

the possibilities are almost endless nowadays!
