Neverwinter experiencing in-game economy exploits

Forum users report exploit; auction hall and astral diamond exchange temporarily taken offline.

Developer Cryptic Studios and publisher Perfect World took the astral diamond exchange and auction hall of its massively multiplayer online game Neverwinter offline to "resolve a high-priority bug" that involved a currency exploit.

The auction hall and astral diamond exchange are currently offline due to the exploit.
The auction hall and astral diamond exchange are currently offline due to the exploit.

The cheat allowed players to duplicate astral diamonds, the in-game currency bought with real-world money. Users reported the exploit in the game's official forums, according to a report on Massively.

The game's publisher, Perfect World, has locked threads about the exploit and taken action against a number of accounts that allegedly used the bug. Suspected cheaters will receive email notifications, while users found guilty may have their accounts either temporarily or permanently banned. Players who believe they have been unfairly caught up in the issue are being urged to contact customer support.

**** this not another mmo. Don't we have enough mmo's already it's like vermin it doesn't matter how many die they just keep comming. When will they bring us a new baldur's gate or something like that maybe a dragonage clone. There are so many games that are multiplayer these day's that there is no room for singleplayer anymore.

@DeKuip There are several kickstarter RPG projects focused on singleplayer, but they'll take a while.

@DeKuip

The first NWN was made by Bioware, but the second was made by Obsidian. This one has nothing to do with Bioware or Obsidian because it's made by Cryptic. Anyway, I disagree that we need another Baldur's Gate. BG has already earned a legendary status among gamers. The story ended well, so let's leave it at that. We could however, have another rpg set in the forgotten realms universe, but not BG.

@jhcho2 @DeKuip I'll give you that but atleast something like BD or Ice Wind Dale. They are the best rpg's of there time and when dragonage came i thought this would be the next step in the right direction. But instead EA destroy's the franshice by making a game for everyone when instead for the real gamers that maked the first game a hit

@DeKuip @jhcho2 I'm looking forward to Obsidian's Project Eternity. Hopefully it'll go back to the single player party-based spacebar-pause awesome story RPG that I love so much!

@jhcho2 @DeKuip Actually didn't it end on a bit of a cliffhanger. I would not mind another BG game in the least but its true that these games are set in the Forgotten realms universe, which is a vast and diverse place and can surely provide good raw material for plenty of games.

@DeKuip Baldur's Gate is Bioware. This is made by Cryptic. All the game worked on by Cryptic have been MMOs as far back as 2000. I agree with you that there are too many devs moving towards MMOs (such as Bioware with SWTOR) but this studio has always been in the MMO space.
