Metal Gear Solid 5 Actor Kiefer Sutherland Praises Gaming As "Next Frontier" Of Entertainment

"This is arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment," he says about games.

24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, who is playing Snake in the upcoming open-world/sandbox game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is quite enthusiastic about the medium of video games. Writing on the "celebrity comments" section of the game's website, Sutherland said he thinks the future is bright for video games.

No Caption Provided

"This is arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment," he said. "It was an honor and a privilege to work with [Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima] who is at its forefront."

Sutherland's comments were recently added to the Metal Gear Solid V website. Other Hollywood celebrities who gushed about The Phantom Pain, and specifically its epic E3 trailer, included key creative people behind acclaimed franchises like Spider-Man, The Walking Dead, and Pacific Rim. You can read all of those comments in this story from late June.

The Phantom Pain is currently in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Publisher Konami has not announced a release date for the game just yet. According to Kojima, the game's world is about 200 times bigger than that of predecessor Ground Zeroes, which launched in March for past- and current-generation consoles.

@tableofjapan You should never buy a game because of a voice actor, true.

But MAN can bad voice actors ruin anything. Let's hope Bauer didn't phone this one in.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Well, I for one am still buying the game because I love Metal Gear. But still, I already know that, no matter how good V is, it would have been better to me with David Hayter as the voice actor.

I like Kiefer and I like that he's enthusiastic about games, but playing him millions of dollars to be a much lesser voice of BigBoss/Snake is probably the worst decision Hideo Kojima has ever made. I be okay with the game being delayed another 2 years even if we could have David Hayter back.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Didn't I say I liked him? I did, which means I am familiar with his acting. But I've played Ground Zeroes 100% and seen all of the video footage and he simply is not a better VOICE actor than David Hayter and certainly not a better voice for Big Boss. And nobody deserves the role more than Hayter; He is part of what has made the series so great since MGS on PSX... he's a huge part of that and if you can't recognize that then you can't recognize quality.

@souporman- @SaQu1B thats your opinion we all have one. but truely people loved Metal Gear which had no voice acting. and in MGS4 Big Boss was voiced by Richard Dole and Kiefer is way better than the MGS4 Big Boss in my opinion. but David Hayter is a great voice for snake but it will ruin his voice when he did MGS4.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> It's Kojima-san's creation but he's creating it because he wants our money. He wanted to move on from Metal Gear YEARS ago but it's too much of a cash cow for him. I'm not saying he's entirely in it for the money; I do believe that he still loves Metal Gear, and like and respect the man very much so, but using Sutherland in place of Hayter is a slap in the face to the fans who have grown to love and expect Hayter to play the role. By your logic, Kojima is just saying, "Well, it's my ball so I'm taking it and going home but I still want my money."

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Kiefer Sutherland is a Hollywood actor. David Hayter isn't he is just a Screenwriter. so Kiefer knows how to so emotions more than Hayter with out it looking goofy. Since the Fox Engine uses facial capture they want to show emotions more than saying how they feel about the situation. He Grew on me when i played Ground Zeroes. The game is still going to be amazing.

It's great he's enjoying his role in the game... but videogames are not exactly a NEW frontier, except maybe to him. Though I guess with the rise in use of motion-capture technology a lot of more traditional actors are seeing video-games as more of a legitimate stage for their acting skills.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It may be, but it's still constantly changing and evolving. Movies have followed the same essential formulas for decades now, but games are still a "frontier" because we're still seeing new things every year.

heh, comparing the game world size to ground zeroes is a bit laughable, like that was an actual game world. :)

Looking forward to this title very much though.

Valid point. It was likely much smaller than the first level of Thief 2.

Considering Shadow Mosses is smaller as well.

<< LINK REMOVED >> You guys do realize actors are people too right? He might just have a passion for games or for this particular game. It is quite common for actors to do projects where they don't get paid much b/c they had a passion for a certain project. Not saying that's what happened I have no idea what he is being paid my point is neither do you as you freely admit here then you proceed to make comments based on assumptions you're making, which is silly.

what ever he is making I'm pretty sure it is not 10 million.

@yoda101280 @alaannn while i can understand they are people and they just want to try getting into the games side of things,i also can see how bad hollywood is and as such im extra cautious with letting them in besides someone was already doing this job and people liked him

A bit behind the times Kiefer. Gaming has been that new frontier for the last 40 years.
