Metal Gear Solid 5 Actor Kiefer Sutherland Praises Gaming As "Next Frontier" Of Entertainment

"This is arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment," he says about games.

24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, who is playing Snake in the upcoming open-world/sandbox game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is quite enthusiastic about the medium of video games. Writing on the "celebrity comments" section of the game's website, Sutherland said he thinks the future is bright for video games.

No Caption Provided

"This is arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment," he said. "It was an honor and a privilege to work with [Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima] who is at its forefront."

Sutherland's comments were recently added to the Metal Gear Solid V website. Other Hollywood celebrities who gushed about The Phantom Pain, and specifically its epic E3 trailer, included key creative people behind acclaimed franchises like Spider-Man, The Walking Dead, and Pacific Rim. You can read all of those comments in this story from late June.

The Phantom Pain is currently in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Publisher Konami has not announced a release date for the game just yet. According to Kojima, the game's world is about 200 times bigger than that of predecessor Ground Zeroes, which launched in March for past- and current-generation consoles.

It makes me wonder if Kiefer actually read the script before he agreed to do it. I'm not refraining from buying MGSV because of a change in voice actor. I'm not buying it because it's basically misogynistic trash! ^^

<< LINK REMOVED >> its just a new actor. like the 007 movies he changed the actor so the game will look more realistic with the fox engine. Kojima is making it so it will be good.

<< LINK REMOVED >> yeah, because overdubbing with Hayter some unknown actor's facial capture is not an option and will cost times as much, even more than hiring a Hollywood actor and paying him for stupid promotion in pathetic damage control attempt.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> like i said its kojima that chose Kiefer. Kojima is the director and he can do what ever he wants. he wants this game to be the next step in Metal Gear since David Hayter is a Screenwriter and not a hollywood movie actor. just let it go. MGS5 will be amazing with kiefer in it.

<< LINK REMOVED >> you can't read, can you? Any aspiring actor could do quality facial capture and then David Hayter could overdub his legendary voicework over it, just like the Japanese version on MGS5 will do with this Kiefer. And BTW David Hayter is an actor too, I've enjoyed his work in Guyver 2. Kojima just tries to sell his game to the casual western crowd who know Kiefer and don't give a crap about MGS legacy. If it wasn't for than, he could have hired ANY DECENT ACTOR OUT THERE, not an overrated and overpaid US Hollywood star

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> yes they could but it wouldn't match his voice. like in MGS4 with snakes or anyones lips or hell look at a japanese movies with english voice over or even some anime that don't sync the lips. i just dont know why people are like im not buying this game without David hayter. But times change and so does Metal Gear. Kojima wanted to try something new.

"New frontier", lol. I was being blown away by Metal Gear Solid 1 back in 1998, along with many other games long before that.

I remember when I felt like that... not so much lately... and not after the abysmal e3 2014.... it was like one big commercial for fall of 2015, and thats like if nothing gets delayed, which will probably happen... so "meh!"

What would he know about it? He's providing a flat voice to Kojima's simplification.

lol I seriously don't understand people complaining about David Hayter.

In Metal Gear Solid 4, Old Big Boss was not voiced by Hayter.

Solidus, the perfect clones of Big Boss, was not voiced by Hayter.

So it would only make sense that Big Boss's voice would change as he ages unlike Solid Snake. Plus Kiefer is a better actor.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Do you honestly know what solidus, old big boss, solid liquid boss, liquid solid-liquid solidus snake, etc. are? The game made NO sense at all. The story was like someone read a book and then recollected it drunkenly while having half of their brain in another dimension being operated on 50 years later

The story of the game literally has nothing to do with what this person just said. You're just venting your displeasure for the Metal Gear franchise with practically no cause to do so.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> its a game. after peace walker though MGS4 he had different voice actors and they weren't David Hayter. even Solidus which was a Perfect Clone of Big Boss didn't. i just find it quite funny that you wont buy a game that might be one of the Best Metal Gears to date because they changed the Voice actor to match Big Bosses age. instead of ruining David Hayters Voice box like he did in MGS4 (and thats why he big boss sounds super old in Peace Walker as well.)

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I liked Hayter's performance up to MGS3, but regardless of reasons, his performance was inexcusably terrible in MGS4 and PW. Even though it sucks how Hayter was given the cold shoulder by Konami and Kojima, I'm glad Kiefer Sutherland is voicing Big Boss. Now it doesn't sound like he's trying to squeeze off a 70 foot turd whenever he (seldomly) speaks.

Eddie I can't believe you wrote four paragraphs ,in a news article on the homepage , about a pointless two-sentence statement (from someone like Sutherland that is !) which is posted on a pointless website.

Seriously ,isn't there any other news out there in the games' industry to cover ?

Shame MGS isn't at the forefront of story telling in games any more, just got stupider and stupider as the series went on.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's always been a little stupid. The thing that's different now is that we're no longer impressionable kids/teenagers being blown away by the first MGS.

I went back and replayed MGS 1, 2, and 3 recently. The games were great, but the dialogue sounded like it came from a ham-fisted, poorly translated anime.

...If gaming is "arguably one of the most exciting new frontiers in entertainment", then what are the other ones? I'm seriously curious. TV and movies can't really be called new frontiers, and anything else is much older than that.

I mean, I can't think of a "new frontier in entertainment" other than gaming, so the fact that he can't even say gaming is THE best new frontier makes his comment pretty meaningless.
