Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo Is Riddled with Bugs on the PS3 - Update

Konami shipped the Zone of the Enders HD Collection with the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance demo advertised on the front, but it seems that the PS3 version is plagued by game-breaking bugs.

[Update] After testing the Xbox 360 version of the demo numerous times, we were unable to reproduce the same issues found during our time with the PlayStation 3 demo.

It appears that the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance demo included with the PlayStation 3 version of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection isn't exactly ready for public consumption. During encounters with the Gecko enemy type, the demo will often crash, requiring a hard-reset of the PlayStation 3. While there's hasn't been confirmation of the same problem occurring on the Xbox 360, it happens often enough in the PlayStation 3 version that customers interested in picking up the Zone of the Enders HD Collection for the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance demo should think twice.

The glitch is repeated in the video posted below, which also contains footage of an extreme clipping glitch at the end.

It's a demo, who cares. Both ZoE games are fine though.

@SnakeEyesX80 It's a demo, not a beta. Demos are supposed to be final builds.

not really. Demos are NOT final builds of games. Some demos have levels, items, and/or designs that are removed or changed in the final product. Final Builds are the final product that we buy in stores or through onlin stores.

If it shipped with these issues I'd be upset, but the fact it's a demo is what doesn't bother me. I'm sure consumers have already advised Platinum and Konami about the demo issues. It'll more than likely be resolved in the retail version. They still have almost 2 solid months before it ships.

To compound matters further, the games themselves are apparently appallingly badly ported.

the cutscenes dont look any better but the overall game looks a tiny bit better. ZOE 1 is easy as hell and was easy to come by. ZOE 2 was MUCH harder and also MUCH HARDER to find. ZOE 2 is stil running over $20 USD used

I swear, if this is another Bayonetta situation where PS3 owners get the crappy version of our over-the-top third person action adventure game developed by Platinum... I'ma be pissed. BUT they still have lots of time to get those bugs out, so fingers crossed! I've been waiting for this game for so long and I can't wait to play it!

I remember renting the first ZoE on PS2 just to play the MGS2 demo. I played ZoE for maybe 5 minutes and the rest of the 3 rental days playing part of MGS2s first level. That game blew me away back then.

Many devs complain that the PS3 is so much more difficult to program on than the 360. These glitches are pretty bad for a demo and are more common in betas.

Demos are usually cuts of the final product whereas betas are at the stage of development where bugs get fixed...so this is pretty lame if it's being called an actual "demo"

Will probably be delayed for both systems because of the PS3

@alkaline_DnB

its the other way around. They already stated that the JPN verison MGR:R on the 360 is cancelled so they have to spend more time working on two versions of the same game at the same time. IMO all JPN companies should just quit making games for the 360. FFXIII was made for both 360 and PS3 and NO ONE bought on the 360 because it looked like crap and hd to be on 2 discs, warrented the game itself wasnt that good to begin with it just shows the power of the PS3 over the 360.

@alkaline_DnB The whole "demo" and "beta" thing is becoming more a matter of semantics... The game is months away, so I would hope nobody actually thinks this is the final build of the game. >.>

I disagree. The word demo and beta can't be used interchangeably, as they are 2 different stages in a game's development...so no in regards to a matter of semantics.

Also, 3 months is not a long time, and judging on this demo, which is not a beta, and is a clear indication of what the final product will be, has a much longer way to go on the PS3. Hopefully the game doesn't get delayed, but I doubt it will be completely bug-free when it hits shelves. At least on the PS3

Here's an excerpt from some other site to clarify, as I think some people don't understand:

"Like Wizzio said, Beta is a test. Demo is promotional. With that said if companies releases a Demo but say we want to test the game out for bugs, they are using the incorrect term. Demo is short for Demonstration. For example if you came over my house and played 5mins of KZ3 for the first time you just Demoed the game. A Beta is to test software, servers, etc."

So if we're playing a demo, we're not testing for bugs...therefore, why is the demo so goddamn buggy on the PS3? And not on the 360.

Well i think every game will have glitches here and there. You never know what kinds of things players will do in the game. Some glitches are funny but when they start causing interuptions to gameplay then its not so funny :/

@M3o5nster Patches don't fix all technical issues, unfortunately. Just about every review I've watched on this site points out bugs in the final version of the game being reviewed.

It's just a shame that the main platform is having more issues. Hopefully, the game won't be delayed much on both systems because of this.

@alkaline_DnB I think you misunderstood my statement... A beta and a demo are technically different, but these days in the gaming industry they are being used more loosely. They shouldn't be, but that's just the way the industry is heading... They rather hype you into buying a game than prove the game is worth your money.

So if you consider this a true "demo" and the final product, I'm not sure what to tell you, because day one patches seem to be the new thing to do... Sad, isn't it? The game is months away, and only releasing on PS3 in Japan, and that's a fact. I doubt they'll risk releasing the game full of bugs on the main platform.

Vanquish demo was different than the final release of the game on PS3 too, so I'm not worried. Bayonetta can't be used as the end all be all of Platinum Games since the port wasn't even fully handled by them.
