Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo Is Riddled with Bugs on the PS3 - Update

how is the demo i havent had a chance to try it? will this game be worth getting?

I didn't have a chance to play the demo on my PS3 .. only played The Tutorial because the demo is freeze after finishing it and all you hear is just the laging background music with black screen, other than that the demo is less playable .

While playing this demo my Ps3 froze, after reseting it; YLOD.

Dunno if it was Metal Gear Rising that did it or if my Ps3 was doomed from the start, either way, dammit.

I played the demo 10+ times, and probably repeated the boss fight about 30 times. The game never froze, but I got a bunch of other bugs:

-Raiden leaves the combat zone during one of those Blade Mode animations and I can't get back in.

-Blade Wolf stays on top of that building and doesn't come down.

-Attacks in Blade Mode are very stiff.

-In VR training, slashing the indicated point on the wooden targets doesn't always give you a 100 points, it's just ignored.

Also(not a bug), hitting the last female wooden "hostage" reveals her bikini, lol.

A few hours ago i replayed this demo and just before the boss battle, when i was about to slash an enemy the screen got freezed. I had to reset the console. Now i need to try the 360 version, what version will be the chosen one? decisions...

i have played the psn demo , and my ps3 crashed (have played the demo only twice for now ), i have aproblem when aiming with blade mode too does anybody has this problem ?

Update; I've now played 2 times through both demo's. Needless to say i have a major OCD when it comes to analysing quality and picture detail when it comes to these things :P. Anyway i've noticed that the ps3 version has a DEFINITIVE absence of screen tearing. I noticed someone mentioning there is full vertical syncing on the ps3 whereas on the 360 there isn't. I don't know if that's true but one thing is clear. There are zero occurences of screen tearing on the ps3 version compared to the 360, which from my experience were more than frequent. Hopefully there will be more developments as time goes on. It would be great if more detailed information was divulged on all the porting specs (hopefully without too many people raging over inane details). I'm still deciding which platform to buy this on. My 'loyalty' lies only in Kojima and Platinum games to produce a quality release. And Raiden as a character has really grown on me over the years. The more tortured and complicated he gets, the more intruiging and deep his story becomes. I REALLY hope Snake gets some kind of cameo in this...even if it's some gruff, disenchanted monologue :P.

I actually played both the 360 and ps3 versions of the demo which i downloaded from the respective stores. the ps3 version was a considerably larger download; somewhere around 3.4 gb in comparison to the 360's 1.34 gb. Both demo's however contain the exact same amount of content. This provoked me to pay more attention to detail. Upson closer inspection the ps3 version is slightly more detailed than the 360 one.With certain particle effects entirely missing from it's counterpart on the 360 i.e water effects on the jet carrying raiden in the in game cinematic. And there is a noticeable decrease in scren tearing. Before people decide to respond with the console fanboy slur i'd like to say i've owned a 360 for about 5 years before i ever bought a ps3 and i have no bias towards either company. That being said after i played both i tried to google to see if i could get any info on the differences and apparently it was announced by kojima and platinum games that the game would be optimized for the ps3 due to there being several game breaking issues with Bayonetta for the ps3. So maybe this has something to do with it. perhaps someone else can elucidate on the subject. In regards to the aforementioned bugs displayed by gamespots experience i must say i haven't encountered any bugs remotely. The game ran at a smooth 60fps throughout with no glitiches whatsoever. However it may have been due to the fact that i had the demo from the marketplace not from the ZOE disc.

if you think this is bad TRY TWISTED METAL it will overheat your ps3 and has literally YLOD players so i guess add it to the list of games that are sold broken and never fixed.

you know, the only good thing that may come out from bashing the game because of those bugs, is - that hopefully PG and Kojima would notice the complaints and work on fixing the bugs.

Other than that, I hope such issues get fixed prior to the release.

Platinum Games know how to make a decent slasher, and well... Games in general. I'm sure It'll be fine by release.

Could those who play the demo, with or without problem, post their PS3 model and how the demo performed? If the lockups are system related, maybe we could find a pattern among which models are experiencing glitches and which aren't.

Maybe we could ACTUALLY make he comments section useful for once.

Demo, nice, at least know what to expect, oh well, either go for Xbox 360 or PC, cause still can't get the PS3 T-T

here's a new update for you gamespot after playing the demo multiple times on the PS3 i encountered no problems at all plus i have also watched various gameplay videos on youtube of the PS3 version and they have no problems either i think you guys need to stop bashing sony so much, you might not mean too but that's how it seems to be coming across nowadays also all your gameplay vids of multi-platform games are only 360 gameplay some games you only give the 360 version a review score (AC3 for example at the time i wrote this comment) and you even did a graphics comparison with a 360 and PC game what's the point in that we know the PC version will be better you should do it with just the PS3 and 360 as they are very similar and it would make more sense.

you know what it's only done this since you merged all the US, UK and AU gamespots together and i also note most of these "sony bashing" articles are done by the american gamspot staff and we all know they don't care about other consoles apart from the 360

you seem to have lost your neutrality when it comes to games and consoles and as journalists you should always be neutral.

Played through the demo three times and didn't have a single issue with freezing. I had one issue with Raiden clipping through the ground and falling endlessly but that only required a checkpoint reset. Otherwise there was no framerate issues or freezing. Its an awesome awesome demo and the game is going to be good, I just hope they improve the parry system slightly, it doesn't seem to work sometimes when it should. I've timed it the same every time and roughly 40% of the time he'll attack. Thats my only negative on it, otherwise I'll likely be buying it in Feb.

I just finished playing the demo on my ps3, and it worked just fine. Didn't notice a single glitch. And i should also add that it was freaking awesome. I've been pretty skeptical about this game, being a long time metal gear fan. But after playing the demo I am completely impressed.

PS: to everyone who keeps bringing up Bayonetta being buggy on ps3, i hope you realize Platinum Games didn't port it to ps3, Nex Entertainment did. And seeing how Vanquish ran perfectly on ps3, there's no real evidence of Platinum not being able to make games for ps3.

Riddled is an overstatement I've played through the demo ten times and I never had the game lockup on me in midcombat or for any of the segments I fought the Gekko's considering you fight 4 Gekko's throughout the demo that means I had 40 opportuntities of the game locking up, as for the visual glitch on the staircase I've run into that same exact visual glitch in Uncharted 2 where I ended up behind a wall does that mean Uncharted 2 is broken? Two things are odd about this video, One if this was such a prevalent issue why is Gamespot the only one posting a video about it, I mean this would be gaming news candy for other websites. Two why is the audio perfectly intact when the game supposedly locks up? It didn't seem like a gradual freeze it looks like you captured the video and then just have one constant frame while the audio is still going.

This crappy quality of some PS3 games are just not fair for the owners of it. Its the best hardware on a console up to date, why that power isnt delivered as it should be? From fallout lags to skyrim.

It looks great except for the bugs. And there's even the classic stealth mechanic! Maybe the version that's supposed to hit the PS Store later this year will be in better condition. If not, that's when I'll start to worry.
