Mass Effect: Andromeda Won't Have Any More Single-Player Updates Or DLC

Mass Effect: Andromeda's campaign will see no future changes.

Mass Effect: Andromeda developer BioWare has issued an update on the game, saying there are "no planned future patches for single-player or in-game story content." The statement effectively confirms the studio will not make any more technical changes to the way the campaign runs. Additionally, it will not release any DLC to address some of the loose narrative threads that fans were hoping to see resolved.

Most notable among these unresolved plot points is the fate of the Quarian Ark, which BioWare has said will be explored in comics and novels, along with other stories set in the Andromeda galaxy.

Now Playing: All the Glitches and Bugs We've Seen So Far - Mass Effect: Andromeda

"Early in development, we decided to focus Mass Effect: Andromeda’s story on the Pathfinder, the exploration of the Andromeda galaxy, and the conflict with the Archon," reads a statement on the game's official website.

"The game was designed to further expand on the Pathfinder’s journey through this new galaxy with story-based APEX multiplayer missions and we will continue to tell stories in the Andromeda Galaxy through our upcoming comics and novels, including the fate of the Quarian Ark."

Mass Effect: Andromeda had a rocky launch, with a litany of bugs and graphics issues drawing heavy criticism from its players. In the months following, BioWare released patches to remedy many of these, the latest of which was on August 1. This, BioWare said, will be the last update for the campaign.

Looking ahead, BioWare's said its "multiplayer team will provide details of their ongoing support and upcoming content, including new multiplayer missions, character kits, and what’s in store for N7 Day" in the coming weeks.

EA officially confirmed that Andromeda developer BioWare Montreal merged with Motive Studios, another EA developer based on Montreal.

So, screw us, basically? Game developers need to plan DLCs for these large, open world titles ahead of time. For all its problems, there are countless loose threads by the end of Andromeda. I bought this game under the presumption that EA would have at least enough courtesy to, you know, finish what they started. Thanks for the reminder that anything EA touches turns to a toxic pile of radioactive garbage.

No quarian, volus and etc... races anymore.

This is no longer a Mass Effect game without the other races.

This is Biowares fault they killed ME by pulling most of their programmers off for Anthem. Great just what I want to play another multiplayer shooter game, like there isn't enough of those in the market already.

Im shocked, game had problems but it hasn't stopped Bioware before. Even DA2 got DLC and that game was imo worse than this. Heck i even enjoyed this game more than DA:I and that was getting the game of the year stamp from some sources ( i really didn't like that game). ME1 is forever gonna be my favorite Bioware game and one of the best games of all time for me. But its sad to see one of if not the, best franchise of whole last generation go down without a fight and everybody and their mother is happy about it. If i was EA i would have given at least 1 DLC pack for free. And then moved on from there if it was not well received.

Biowares best stuff is usually their DLC. And in ME2 and Inquisition it was used as good prequels to the sequel.

What a let down. Game left open a lot of open plots, even what happened and the reason of why they left.
They could of made a DLC about that alone.

was hoping for more DLC or maybe they should open it up to modders to add to the game.

EA should really take better care of the bioware brand. It's a name people used to really respect, but it has gotten really patchy lately. Like seriously, this is just the icing on the cake. RPGs are the kind of genre that needs some serious time in the oven, like 3 years min if you're not reusing assets or building straight on top of the previous game. It needs story revisions and lots of iteration, you can't just crack the whip and mass produce it like cod or coble it together at the last minute like happened with this fiasco.

This stuff is just straight up disappointing :(

And.... it's official, EA has killed Bioware. There's no reason to trust the studio anymore. Why include plotholes and hooks in your game if you don't intend to fill them?

@TheZorker: Bioware isn't really a single studio anymore, it's a brand name. Best way to know what to expect is to keep track of which studio and people are working on what.

The only true EA franchise: MONEY! Why would they support this game any longer when their yearly cash cow Madden and Battlefield are on the way. EA isn't making any more money on Andromeda anyway except maybe those buying it for $10 from a bargain bin. They destroyed this franchise due to greed because it was clearly rushed and they gave us a broken game. They do it with Battlefield all the time and promise to fix it later with patches. Typical EA practices. I will not put down a dime on Anthem until I see multiple reviews from honest sites that aren't getting paid off to praise a game that may be utter crap.

A month or so ago there were rumors and speculations. All the fanboys came out of the woodwork screaming how Bioware wouldn't do that to us and it was just rumors from us haters. Where are those fanboys now? LOL

@W4rl0ck: It's easier and cheaper to drop 10 people in a room and tell them to repeatedly shoot each other than to create the hundreds of rooms and AI necessary to entertain you for the same amount of time. Sad part is, this was never what they sold us. Mass Effect is a single player franchise, now it's a single player dead franchise.

Welp, R.I.P Quarian Ark - rest in cheaper production costs.

Seriously though, it was probably the one thing that would make me return to Andromeda, at all. Even though it's obviously a spaceship loaded with reapers.

@KaptenHaddock: Amazing how a single half-baked piece of crap can ruin one of the best intellectual properties ever created for computer games. Before the launch of Andromeda, Mass Effect could be EA's Halo or Uncharted, now it's EA's Fable.

@MigGui: Except the plot and gameplay went to shit in ME2, ME3 recovered it back to acceptable game-play.

The compartmentalized stories in those game were alright, but for instance docking a Ship with a Cerberus logo on the side in ME2 at the Citadel would be like driving a bus with blacked out windows and an ISIS logo on the side to the white house in the real world. I can point you to a plot-point by plot-point video series that explains this further if you'd like further elaboration on why it's not a Halo or Uncharted.

Hope they don't give up on this franchise like EA made happen to the Deadspace franchise after the lukewarm reception of 3.

I'm still holding on to hope for a new Deadspace reveal sometime in the near future.... Would love a new entry on current Gen.

Did they actually do their research?

I know that in games like Total War, less than 5% of the player base plays multiplayer. I doubt it will be much different for a traditionally singleplayer franchise like Mass Effect. If any thing they should be focusing purely on updating single player.

Say what you will about No Man's Sky, but the devs at least try to fix their game to become what they said it would be. But EA and Bioware just throws in the towel after just a few months. Seems to me that they truly don't care about their games anymore, they just do it for money. I had hope they could fix a lot of the issues with either patches or some substantial DLC packs, well now I know it won't be a finished product. I am positive that they where planning on a Quarian Ark DLC but because of the failed launch, they scrapped it.

@merwanor: Well, I don't know that Hello Games has any other major IPs to shift resources to. BioWare, on the other hand, is large enough to NEED big AAA hits to stay in business. Andromeda DLC isn't likely to be worth their time and money, but Anthem might be.

@Mogan: They should have thought about that during development & made a game their team had the ability to make. Now, many will put the benefit of the doubt against EA when they're not sure about an IP. Many already did, but these audiences of each franchise will build up.

@Mogan: But it will be another stain on their record and for a company that had earned up alot creds with gamers which is usually what gets people to pre-order and things like that, Bioware has used up all their creds.
Hello Games is trying to restore their creds to people will pre-order another game of theirs, Bioware/Ea doesn't give a damn, why would anyone pre-order another Bioware game ?

And Anthem didn't even get that great of a reception, it was a rather meh reception so Andromeda might be the final nail in the coffin for Bioware.

And slick looking trailers will bring in pre-orders. Look how many people talk **** about Call of Duty.

Patches can only do so much, and this game needed another year in development before it should have been considered for release. The true crime here is how the brand itself became tarnished by how bad the game actually is. This is like some new trend nowadays. First it was Diablo 3, now andromeda.

I just hope the necessary lessons have been learned from these disasters. Seriously, it's time to stop. If you know you can't deliver a sequel that holds up to the games that came before it, then don't. Just wait and do a remaster (that's what blizzard is apparently doing with their older titles now), but at least they're aware of the fact that they can't make good games anymore lmao. Do a remaster, or a new brand. But seriously stop ruining great games with horrifyingly bad sequels.
