Intel expecting GTAV on PC

Director of marketing says "I don't think it'll be console-exclusive very long," believes initial console exclusivity for Halo hurt the brand overall.

According to a representative for PC chip maker Intel, it is not a question of if Grand Theft Auto V will be released on PC, but when. Director of marketing for Intel's Premium Notebooks Chris R. Silva told PC Gamer that the open-world game won't remain a console-exclusive for much longer.

"At least with Grand Theft Auto, I don't think it'll be console-exclusive very long. But that's what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content."

The reason Rockstar Games has not announced GTAV for PC, according to Silva, is because "Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive."

The PC iteration of Grand Theft Auto IV launched about eight months after the console versions shipped in April 2008. Nearly 600,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Rockstar Games to release GTAV on PC.

GTAV launched last month and has generated more than $1 billion to date. Its multiplayer mode--Grand Theft Auto Online--was released on October 1.

Also in the interview, Silva said Microsoft's decision to launch the Halo series as a console-exclusive, with ports of the original and Halo 2 coming later, "hurt" the brand overall. No Halo game has been released on PC since Halo 2.

Who cares about a PC port 8 months later? I'm expected to pay them $59.99 for a game that everybody else was playing 8 months ago? Lol... It's partly the pc gamers fault aswell, if they would stop purchasing these year late ports. Anybody who buys the title a year later for full price is a fool and only helps makes things worst, this pretty much confirms to Rockstar and the like, that no matter how late they release it, no matter how bad the port is (IV), there's pc gamers who for whatever reason remain loyal and will still buy the game full price. You want me to buy it 8 months later when the hype is dead and the title is all forgotten about? $20 seems like a more than fair price to me.

@GTAVonPS3 No, but better control options and smoother gameplay does, al la the increased FPS. Also, Dark Souls main issue is that it is locked at 30 fps. 60 FPS is just far more fluid for gameplay, which is why most fighting games are designed to run at 60 FPS. Unless the game is terribly ported, lacks players (if online), or is exclusive (which bars it from being on PC), PC is the superior platform.

Guess what, since Destiny is a shooter, I WOULD rather play it on PC because analog shooter controls are garbage blatantly held together by copious amounts of auto aim and aim assist. Whether playing Bionic Commando: Rearmed on a controller, SSF4AE on a tourney fightstick, or Battlefield and Chivalry on mouse and keyboard, PC is a pretty great platform for just about everything.

Also, the Windows users did not support GTA IV in any convincing sense - it didn't even stay at #1 on their charts for more than a week. It's the console sales that fund the game, the PC sales are neglible. If there's a GTA 6, it will be because it was successful on consoles.

I personally don't care; there are plenty of games on PC that I can play. And I'm not sure how they can claim that not releasing it on PC hurt the brand...is one billion in sales not enough?

The only games I play today are Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto V. I bought a Playstation to play them, since I'm primarily a PC gamer. I really have no interest in playing these games on my PC, and if they ever do release them for PC I will most likely not even buy them since I've already played the crap out of them on the PS3.

I wouldn't play it on a console unless it had a keyboard and a mouse attached. I'm a PC fascist in that sense, I don't believe in controller aiming.

GTA 4 was the worst port ever. I take that back....nothing beat Dark Souls. The modding community practically saved Dark souls from being the ugliest game of its time.

@ewjiml @blackroommate I disagree. Dark Souls was unoptimized as **** graphically and was pretty much Controller only, but it actually worked pretty good. Near flawlessly.

GTA4, was a terrible port and even modern computers have trouble running it sometimes, it's a total mess.

"console exclusivity for Halo hurt the brand" - actually it's the opposite and that fellow may want to refresh his Marketing knowledge. The exclusivity was a major factor in raising Halo to legendary status.

If you want to build an immensely strong brand, do NOT make your product available to EVERYONE. Put some barriers. Make people crave for it.

@TashunkoSapa Then, you would wake up realizing that the barrier is stupid, and you oppose it, but I guess that only happens for some people....

"The reason Rockstar Games has not announced GTAV for PC, according to Silva, is because "Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive." - hahaha this is so sad from intel. The true reason they didn't launch the PC yet (its coming) is because consoles, while still can be pirated, it is no where near caribbean sea of piracy like the PC is despite how much Steam helped to reduce piracy. Part of the reason is because it is too much hassle to pirate on the console and while on the PC it is very simple as downloading a torrent.

Now that they got the majority of the sales, they will release it on the PC in the coming months as then the sales lost through piracy won't sting so much.

@Gamer_4_Fun Piracy has nothing to do with it. It is all about selling the game as many times as possible, by delaying the announcement of the PC version they get multi-platform gamers to buy the game on Consoles and then again on PC 9 months latter , that is their real game plan.

Furthermore do you really think MS and Sony don't pay for timed exclusives? How do you think Xbox got the expansion packs for GTAIV first?

I am not saying that they payed for it not to be PC, but they did pay for it to be on their consoles at the same time, there is no one in the PC market with enough incentive to take part in practice, so the game comes to PC last.

@Krauklis no offence that is the stupidest argument for this. I got in the PS3, great game. I am sure on the PC it will be even better (if and only if you have a capable PC), bu, no way I am gonna buy it again.

@Gamer_4_Fun @Krauklis No offense taken, but maybe just think that you are not the only person with PC and console? Far more people will buy it twice and even trice, that is the way it works, and that is why they do it that way.

It is a far more valid reason to delay both the announcement and the actual release than piracy since PC pirates don't go out and buy a console and a console game in order to play it, but a legit multi platform gamer will buy the game on both if he is impatient enough not to wait 9 months for a PC release.

@Gamer_4_Fun There was an article with a quote from someone at Rockstar stating that they were mostly interested in the first eight weeks of sales. I'm assuming its for the same reason you just explained. Get those legit sales out first then it's less of an issue who pirates it. It's not hard to pirate for a console though, that data goes up on the web just as easy and I think that there's a drive you can buy for around 60$ that prints the images out so they work with your console. Not that big of an investment to be able to steal.

All that being said I don't prescribe to the idea that every copy pirated is a sale lost as a good deal of the pirating is done in 3rd world countries that just don't have the support for the systems in the first place or are insanely overpriced. There are seven billion people on this planet now and a million people illegally downloading your software isn't even a fraction of a drop in the bucket of potential sales. Minecraft has been and still is pirated by a huge amount of people and is also one of the best selling indie titles ever, even beat CoD on xbox digital sales iirc.

... Was it really ever a question of if? was it not a question of when?

Every GTA game has everntually come to PC, why would V be different. I think everyone knows this, so unless someone has a release date this is a useless news story and just white noise to fill your front page...

It would be nice to have it on PC, imagine the modding community if Rockstar was to team up with them to provide good tools and Rockstar could implement various mods as extras.

@Bellum_Sacrum @Lugia465 Mods have nothing to do with charity. You might want to check out the tons of mods available for tons of games via steam workshop. You also might want to check this http://www.gta4-mods.com/ It'S a community sharing tons of mods for GTA IV. Which, last time I checked, was made by guess who? ROCKSTAR!!! Man the world is a marvelous place when we take some time to just look at it.
