Final Fantasy VIII arises on PSN

already own it on ps1 no sense i owning 2 copies

Easily my favourite Final Fantasy game. Even though I just completed it about a month ago, I'd still buy it. I just wish SCEE would get their fingers out their arses and give us the same games the US store is getting.

well lets see if sony europe werent douches with the ps1 compatibility, i would've been playing ff8 a long time ago, seems like only the platinum/greast hits discs work on the euro ps3s

FF8 was absolutely phenomenal. I just don't understand why there was some negative criticism of this game.

Now all they need to do is release FFIX... Buying the game again isn't really a tough call for me; first, because I can play it on PSP and the PS3. Finally, because it won't fall prey to being scratched or otherwise unplayable as discs can. Had that happen to my FFIX disc 4... If they do manage to get PS2 stuff out some kind of way, I hope Square decides to/finds a way to release some of the Final Mix/Zodiac System/Additional stuff games that we didn't get.

@1425678786655 Actually tetra master is the card game in FFIX. FFVIII has Triple Triad. FFVIII was my favorite of the PS1 FF games, but I still have the original on disc...buying it again is kind of a tough call, though being able to play it on my PSP is an intriguing thought...

since ff7 came out on psn i have been waiting for ff9 :( pleaaaaaaase hurry up i wanna dig for chocographs argh i lost my 4th disk and i keep playing it. (woop ff8 aswell lol)

FFVIII was a great game, and Laguna is one of my fav video game characters.

i propose PSN should upload more PS1 and PS2 game for user to download......for FREE...:P

the card game is tetra master, Spoonofknife, and ya i know it is alot of fun lol. but geeze only 10 bucks?? this is great they're releasing the games to download again.. hopefully they continue with 9 too :D the re-release of these games are cool... but a re-make would be so much better. 7-10 were freakn epic games

By far the best game in the series! I know that FF VII broke loads of barriers and it changed gaming forever, but there is so much more to do in this game. The magic system, equipping magic to boost stats, deconstructing cards for items. The magic system allows you to do more than just kill the Mobs as fast as your can. Adds more strategy to the game. The huge variety or summons. The characters, the plot, everything. This game has damn near unlimited customization. There was nothing you couldn't do in this game.

@TC_Squared, to answer your question, I don't see anything wrong with a person liking ff7 and disliking ff8. The pacing of the games were completely different. FF7 had a structure where it climaxed, descended, climaxed descended whereas FF8 was more like going from point a to point b. It was very slow paced throughout the entire game. The walking speed on the world map for example was incredibly slow, the battling was slow and you had to draw spells to get strong. It's not hypocritical to like Cloud and dislike Squall. Cloud and Squall are nothing alike. Cloud had a reason for his emo behavior besides him being weak, he was also exposed to Mako poisoning which would affect his behavior. Yeah he didn't care about anything at first just like Squall. Squall was extremely introverted, and an awkward if almost anti social person. He was not likable at all. I guess some gamers felt a connection to him, but I sure did not. The plot in FF8 was confusing at times and I did not like how all of a sudden the story says all of the characters knew each other all along at the orphanage. I liked FF7 and FFIV DS but I didn't like FF8 nor FF9 as much.

Man, I'm so gonna get this for my PSP. I never got to finish it whenever it first came out because my Playstation somehow scratched the first disk now I'll finally be able to play it.

Why do so many people say that they love FFVII but hate FFVIII. VII and VIII are so much alike. I could understand if someone said they liked IX but not VII and VIII (because IX went back to the traditional style), but to say that FFVII was great and FFVIII sucked is down right hypocrisy. P.S. Cloud held in many emotions and didn't care about anyone at the beginning of FFVII, and even lied about his past, so to say that Cloud was cool but Squall sucked is also hypocritical. They were so much alike.

I need to pick up 7 and 8 for my ps3. They don't work on my pc anymore, turns out you need a 6 series or older geforce to get support for 8-bit games.

A pretty good game but i think I'll pass. I downloaded FF7 to my PS3 and PSP and I never play it. I'm sure this would end up the same way.

The graphics and sound were great, the story was deep and engaging, and the battle system was a broken, unbalanced mess. It's this schism between extremely good features and extremely bad that has likewise divided fans over the game. Either you got completely wrapped up in the story and overlooked the flaws in the combat, or you got frustrated with the screwy battle system and didn't care what happened next. I went the latter route. I thought the drastic changes they made to the combat system didn't work well, and found the game to drag horribly in spots because of it. The battle drives the story; I can't just have one part working in an RPG.

I was NEVER a fan of #8. It was the one that never captured me.

Hmmm, it seems half the people love the game and half the people hate it. I haven't played anything past Final Fantasy II (4 in Japan) except for Crisis Core. I think I'll get both this and VII.

Time to pick up FF8 for my PS3!

@Princess_Rectum: I couldn't agree more. It wasn't more than 3 years ago all I heard was how much FF8 sucked. Internet clicks sure are funny I have the same love for it I did 10 years ago. I still remember beating it a bit before Halloween.

I always loved FF VIII. Never had a Playstation, but I did get it for the PC.

FF VIII was great, sadly i hadnt finished it on the ps1, so now im gona try to finish it on my psp, now i cant wait for FFIX

Jesus I was like 20 when this game came out. Makes me feel old. :( Game was awesome. Didn't enjoy the magic farming though.

Squall is so emo

Slogging through FF VIII on the PS1 was bad enough...I can't imagine a second go around on PS3 or PSP. Square really dropped the ball with VIII and they seemed to recognize this when they returned to basics in IX. I will wait and hope that FF IX is on the way to PSN.

I consider FF VIII to be one of the better titles of the franchise because of its characters and its story. Especially when compared to FF IX.
