EA's Humble Origin Bundle offers Dead Space 3 for $1

New pay-what-you-want bundle allows you to set your own price for Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, and Burnout Paradise.

The latest Humble Bundle, the Humble Origin Bundle, allows customers to pay what they want for six EA games.

No Caption Provided

Customers can pay a minimum of $1 for Dead Space 3, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Crysis 2: Maximum Edition, Medal of Honor, and Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box. Those paying above the average--$4.74 at time of writing--will also receive Battlefield 3 and The Sims 3: Starter Pack, which contains The Sims 3 and expansions Late Night Expansion Pack, and High-End Loft Stuff.

All games can be redeemed on Origin, and everything but Battlefield 3, Dead Space 3, and The Sims 3 can be redeemed on Steam.

At time of writing, the Humble Origin Bundle has so far made $3.2 million. EA itself is taking none of the money, instead opting to give all proceeds to charity. Customers can choose to allocate their donation between five charities: Human Rights Campaign, Watsi, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, American Cancer Society, and American Red Cross.

All of the games require a Windows PC, with the exception of The Sims 3, which will also run on Mac.

The Humble Origin Bundle will be available until August 28.

My only major disappointment with Origin is that it won't even download games if your OS doesn't support them. This is bs.

It's like paying $1 to ruined the series for yourself. That's a great deal. Honestly, if you enjoyed Dead Space and 2, please don't try this.

Nothing like promoting your company by providing keys to a game like sims 3 where by the keys are not redeemable on your DRM tool, Origin

AT least its not called the EA indie bundle.

Its a good deal on itself but on the other side they are not doing it for charity. What they are doing is trying to lure people into installing origin with games that wouldn't sell much in present times. WIth the promise that once you are installed they can milk you with other stuff

@edinko I guess I'm the only person who used the Origin keys only and threw the Steam ones away, honestly Origin is fine.

@edinko EA is a company. This humble bundle is a promotional tool. A company is going to try and promote their product in order to get more customers. EA is operating just like any other company would, you just can't get over the EA/Origin hate to see that. They are great games and it is for a good cause, so shut up and donate. Or don't. No one is forcing you.

@HumbleBuckeye @edinko The EA/ origin hate has a reason mate. The reason is that they are a despicable company with abusive business practices.

did you actually notice that there is DS1 and 3 and not 2?

Do you want to know why? CAuse it still sells. They are putting there just throwaway games that don't sell anymore. They don't give a F about charity. Its cold blooded calculations.

@edinko Did it not occur to you that they didn't include DS2 because they already gave that away for free earlier this year? Also, 2 games are always added to these bundles a few days before the promotion ends, so it may very well be added then anyway.

Either way, this is a great deal, with or without DS2.

@kungfuflyingpig That's true mate. Others did it also. But unfortunately that doesn't make EA a nice company.

Jk, is it just me or are they trying to redeem themselves? They seem to be doing normal/good things lately.

@Mega_Skrull They have a new CEO now after their share prices dropped, one would assume that this is an attempt to improve on how peoeple view them.

Although personally I never had problems with Origin or EA Games, it's a perfectly fine service.

Someone told me these bundles are popping up on eBay. I checked myself, and it's true.

Not sure how to feel but I think it's shameful. Probably these were $1 donations and trying to sell it at a high price.

At least they donated something, but it doesn't make it right.

@zzamaro There's a purchase limit on the current one, which is the first for me on Humble Bundle because I normally buy for others.

@zzamaro There's no stock limit for digital goods, they'll just generate another million license codes and be done with it.

1) Buy the 6-pack for 1 EUR
2) Sell all 6 games for 1 EUR each
3) Buy the 8-pack for 4,50 EUR
4) Even make a profit while getting all those games basically for free and supporting charity
5) Repeat as necessary

Capitalism, Ho !

I am tempted to buy that bundle for the minimum of 4,50 EUR and install Origin with a temporary account on a separate disk (so EA can't spy on me much).
But then again, for a few rounds of BF3 even that's not worth it.

However, I could try and trade the keys for actually good games instead.

Oh the dilemma I'm in ... On one hand I absolutely despise EA, on the other hand I could do some good for charity and profit for myself too, but can I justify dragging some poor souls into the evil ...

@bloody-hell You get a ton of free games while donating to a good cause and you're not gonna do it because of a petty hate for a company? You are the one without a soul. In your terms, you are worse than EA.

I think EA accidentally switched Battlefield 3 and Dead Space 3 in the bundle. It is so surprising that a game released this year isn't locked behind the pay-above-the-average gate. Or was DS3 a failure in terms of returns?

@Kryptonbornson No, it all goes to charity, but if you register an Origin account, then in a month or two there will be official news by EA that their userbase grew substantionally, which might be "good news" for their investors and EA will abuse that for "we've got more users than Steam" false marketing and stupid people will always fall for that.

So if you want to disappoint their investors, then don't register an Origin account, but we all know they're still counting all those inactive, internal, bot-autoregistered and test accounts too to "improve" their statistics and you as a single person can only choose for yourself if you want to be part of it or not.

@bloody-hell @Kryptonbornson Do you even read what you write? EA IS A COMPANY, SO YES THEY ARE GOING TO TRY AND PROMOTE THEIR PRODUCT AND SHOW IMPROVEMENT TO STAKEHOLDERS. They are of course going to try and beat steam because Steam is their competition. Get off this stupid EA hate train.

@bloody-hell @Kryptonbornson an idiot would not join origin... if you are a PC gamer there are some games like me3, bf3, dead space 3 you only get through origin.

I don't understand why people play favouritism... Valve refuses to have valve games on Origin, I think EA has every right to refuse EA games there as well. But fact is they don't they still allow some EA games on Steam.

Ugh. This sounds like a great deal and all, but I just don't want Origin. I have Dead Space 1 and 2 on Steam (along with hundreds of other games) already, and I would rather have the whole collection all in one place. I don't want to download an entirely new client just for 1... MAYBE 2 or 3 games...

@Poodger EA is already doing achievements. They are clearly meaning to compete with Steam as PC is a free market. Titanfall is Origin only so is BF4. Microsoft will soon have their version of Steam that people want and Ubistoft is already moving in that direction as there is no sign Watch Dogs of Assassin's Creed 4 will be on Steam. Too late.

Guys come on now, this hate has now become unreasonble. I've practically criticised EA everytime (with good reason) but this time they're making an effort to make things right despite what we may think their intentions are. Bottom line, you all get a huge consumer surplus. Lets just consider this a rebate for all the times they've ripped us off and leave it at that.

Not sure where all these fake Origin haters are coming from, but the only reason real gamers don't like Origin is because it's unnecessary competition to Steam.

EA thought they could waltz in and steal Steams customers with less and weaker sales. There are no issues other than that. Battlelog would have been on BF3 regardless of Steam or Origin support. Steam has ads too, every once in a while they have an ad at launch showing if a game is now available, on sale, or for pre-order.

I'm not defending Origin, I don't like it because it's useless, but don't lie to yourself saying that it has all these errors and ads and other bs.

@DIGN I wish MIcrosoft had done what Steam did because they were the only ones who ever had the chance to not fracture PC gaming. Steam has zero chance to be a monopoly even though they will likely stay dominant.

I don't understand you guys anymore. I understand EA has done a lot of shitty stuff in the past, but here they are, finally trying to do some good, and you guys are shitting all over it. They are practically giving away games in order to raise money for several charities, and you assholes just wont let it go. "Oh, HumbleBuckeye, EA is just doing this to get more people to use Origin". You mean to tell me that a company is trying to promote their product?! *GASP* "oh, but Origin is so bad, I dont want to use it" Two things, 1) Have you even tried it or are you just jumping on the hate train and 2) So what? No one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy it.

Half of you ****-tards have probably never even experienced anything truly bad with EA, but you are just jumping on the hate train 'cause its the "cool" internet thing to do, and the other half are just neck-beards who wont forget the past and wont let it go. You are the lowest of the low, because all that you are doing is hindering EA from raising more money to donate to charities. Get over yourselves and move on.

If you did donate to the humble bundle, then I thank you with all my heart. Please I encourage all of you to donate to this bundle and help out the charities. Its for a great, great cause and the games that you get aren't too bad either.

@deth420 @HumbleBuckeye Wait? You mean to tell me that a company is trying to make money?! How dare they try and be successful.

And their shitty business practices are like 90% of the companies in the world, the only difference being that their practices are shown in the news because they are so big.

Once again, grow up and get over yourself.

@HumbleBuckeye Those that want to donate to charities can simply go to the appropriate websites and donate directly or even better donate your time.

While I have used steam and origins, with steam being a little better just because of the fewer hoops you have to jump through, I have no ill will toward Origins and for those that would like some decent games and also know the profits will go to charity then by all means. Warning though Origins can be a bit of a pill to swallow and review offline restrictions. Again, you can also donate directly to the charities.

As for EA - I do not feel they are some evil company rolling their hands while thinking of the next world take-over plot. But I do have a problem with how they have handled certain IP's over the years, DRM, certain games and online requirements, in game purchases of items, and the obstructive influence this publisher has pushed on developers. For that I will simply let EA know that I will vote with my dollar, and it looks like alot of other people feel the same too.

Humblebuckeye, while I am sure you have a point you are trying to make, just remember that many others have their own opinions based on many factors - which includes word-of-mouth, which is also a valid source. "many friends tell you they got food poisoning from this restaurant- 'you say - well even though I have not tried the place - I have nothing but good things to say about them until I to get food poisoning."

Companies with a bad reputation that was garnered by doing poor work for its customers - will find they will lose out on new customers as well.

clicks "play" to play battlefield.

browser opens to Battlefield 4 browser ad.

closes browser and clicks "play" in origin for a second time.

browser opens again to battlefield 4 add.

again, closes browser and clicks "play" in origin, this being the third time (in case anyone's counting)

browser opens to battlefield 3 user page; install plug-in window pops-up with this message:

"Download and install the latest Browser Plugin to play the game."

opens steam...

its really not that difficult. My friends and I have hundreds of hours into bf3. one of my friends has 350 hours, 6 hours with the Knife alone and almost 2000 knife kills. None of us have issues playing. Its not rocket science. Super easy actually.
