Big in Japan Mar. 30-Apr. 5: PS3 continues strong sales run

wow... monster hunter portable is still in the top 5... monster hunter 3 should seriously boost the wiis sales in japan, after all the ps3 only outsold the wii for a month mostly due to yakuza 3 ,resident evil 5 and no important wii software launches

It seems that there is no more new game title for 360 to beat PS3 in Japan anymore.

Cool let's hope that American people Do realize That the Xbox360 will let you busy for now , while the ps3 is for now and for later! (MGS4 takes a whole 50gb blu-ray disk) :that's the futur of gaming... Where x360 give you 9gb space which is bad or good for these days

PS3 is going to dominate the console sales. Given the fact it hardly breaks. Its actually cheaper in the long term then a 360. (No not just because of xbox live). Also because it has blueray, and more and more people are getting HD TVs. Also I've found it funny, when all the 360 fanboys go on about how there console is HD? Really? Don't think so. Unless you want to by a HD disk drive for £100+ then yeah it will be. But you also won't get true dolby 7.1 surround sound support which is easily the sickest thing I've ever heard. Also PS3 has more exclusives then 360. And seeing as most of PS3 exclusives are AAA titles. I don't see why people even bother with the 360. Seriously the 360 is worthless. My PC is 3x more powerful than it. And its about the same price. (I built it of course). Most of the 360 exclusives are either timed, or out on PC. While some of them are failed ports when they come out on PC, I would rather not play them.

Japs sure are smarter than American in not getting wowed by motion sensing technology. but still they're not buying the awesome games. Just some repetitive games.

wow for japan im suprised how well the 360 did. for 360's to be only outsold less than 3 to 1 by the ps3 in sonys stronghold territory is a pretty decent run. still my 360 sits happily side by side with the ps3 in my loungeroom. they used to fight but now they get along together. the wii is sulking beacuse its been neglected and unofficially labled the 'youtube console' in this house..

People need to keep in mind that PS3 in Japan is double the price of the Wii so this says a lot about Wii and PS3. PS3 is the real deal unlike Wii. Gimmick might be finally "dead" so to speak. Once there is price cut and FF13 that you will see real sales of PS3 vs Wii

7 million Wiis sold in japan is not=everyone has a Wii, makes no sense, if you look how much PS2 sold and is selling. PS2 - 22 million units in Japan, just little fact, best system ever, the king of the kings...

the ps2 has out tons more units than the wii, and is still selling strong, so you people that are saying that everyone has a wii and thats why its not selling is complete garbage..

Some of you folks are in serious denial. Think there's going to be a Sony comeback? Assuming the PS3 and Wii continue to sell like this in Japan, it'll still take until 2028 for the PS3 to overtake the Wii in sales. Even if not one single Wii sold after today, the PS3 wouldn't take the lead for 4.8 years -- until roughly Christmas of 2013. Probably best to just enjoy your console and not worry about who's "winning" or "losing."

and the only thing that really matters is profit, nintendos turning it left and right and well i own al 3 and ya japan basically has wiis there wouldnt be any otrher reason for sony selling more then wiis but that gap closing this time by just 5 thousand i think this gens gonna be a 2 horse race between wii and ps3 , 360 is losing ground like every day

corrupt once again wii still holds first place for japans total and even if sony only gets japan , that wont make ps3 win anything , wii haqs already won from day one 3 yrs as apposed to 6 weeks corrupt gamer change that to what ever makes 3 yrs then it make sense let me do it for ya , 1 month and 1 week vs 3 and a few months lol therefore sony like i said has lots of work ahead of them ,

I'm not concerned about Sony, or Nintendo for, ironically, different reasons.

I don't see why people are making a big deal out of this. What if everyone in the world had a Wii? Would you expect sales to continue like they did before? Umm... no. It's that simple. More and more people have a Wii. This is not yet a sign of the PS3 beating the Wii in sales over the course of this generation.

The handheld market just keeps growing. We're all always on the move, aren't we? Still, rather play games on a small screen rather than congregate with strangers around me =p

sony will eventually take first place worldwide when they get more exclusive like uncharted 2, god of war 3 & just in 2 months time Infamous.

Handhelds sell a ton there....

Even Nintendo's Iwata-san has now acknowledged that the Wii has experienced declining sales for such a long time that it has grown "tired" and a price cut is coming soon in Japan. PS3 is doing better now that it has in the past, but only by a slim margin. This special occasion of "Beating the Wii" actually had far more to do with declining Wii sales than increasing PS3 sales. Nevertheless, Sony should be congratulated for finally beating the Wii in the same way that Microsoft was when the Xbox 360 outsold the Wii in Japan during those time periods. Japan is hit by a recession, too, and these low hardware sales numbers prove it. But I think Sony should try to use this type of publicity to their advantage while they can. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Wii price is dropped in Japan.

This just proves that the Xbox isn't as popular in other countries as it is in the US. Sony is doing fine this gen.

Its amazing what can happen when you bundle a blockbuster game with a system (RE5/PS3).

PSP sales should be steadying at a mid level until E3, depending on a new model revelation or a PSP 2. smart buyers will wait and see if they should wait or if its ok to get a PSP now or later and ktseymour: not rly, in japanese that's pretty short and fast

Looks like the PS3 is finally being appreciated. Guess the japanese know a value system when they see it.
