I was all excited at the prospect of playing a X-Men RPG game. Being able to play as my favorite Marvel characters and building them up to be faster and stronger has it's advantages, but it also has drawbacks. First lets start off with the story. The game starts off with only a few playable characters and you can unlock more as you progress throughout the game. Soon your able to control up to 4 at a time as you battle your way through anti-mutant forces and also Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Work your way through NYC streets and also the X-Mansion fighting the forces of evil to protect the mutant race. Then later on you have to actually save the Earth from Magneto in space. Playing through the levels can be alot of fun (especially with Wolverine) as the environment is destructable and you can pick up items to throw at enemies. But, you spend most of your time in the Danger room in order to Level up your characters and get special equipment specific to each character. This is the part of the game I didnt like, as the Danger room is fun for the first time through but more than 50% of your time is spent there in the same rooms over and over again in order to build up your characters. This gets very old very fast. Too repetative and boring. Even the more difficult rooms are the same thing with stronger enemies. As for the gameplay, its actually fun and interesting to mix and match the 4 characters to progress in the game. I usually stuck with the same 4 throughout (some levels require you to select specific characters) and I was able to finish the game with a strong team. The only replay value is playing through with different characters as your main team. Otherwise it has none. If your a X-Men fan then this game is right up your alley and RPG gamers will enjoy the RPG elements invloved. It is a nice mix or hack-n-slash RPG that will keep you interested but watch out for the boring factor. HINT: Build up Jean Grey's Mental attack and you can destory most enemies in one shot later in the game.
