These MOBAs Think They Can Take On League of Legends and Dota 2

I know this is a really old article but I have been in the alpha and now beta of HOTS and have to say it is so fun and quick to understand but so hard to master. The characters are all familiar from all the blizzard games I have played over the years. This is my first MOBA and now I understand how addicting they can be.

I have played LoL for many years now and they have made great improvements in shorting the time that it takes to play a game, but I feel that is still long. I like the Blizzard take played it a couple of times, but the strategy is complete mediocre level compared to the strategy of play LoL.

all these smite fan boys shadup, if smite is that good of a game it would be up there, but since its not, its not. What effort does it take if you can see ur enemies threw walls, trees etc. You happy?

I hope these games help clean up the toxic communities from Lol and Dota, driving away players who are not really interested on the games and play just to mess around.

DOTA (ARTS game) is the mother of the so called MOBA games.

lol they don't even mention Smite? One of the biggest and diverse changes to MOBA's ever? What a joke video.

Moba's have a pretty high learning curve and a lot of time needs to be invested in them. People wont simply jump ship or scatter their time across several moba's. Right now theres enough moba's to pick from. Any more and the genre gets saturated with copies of copies just like in the fps genre. LoL and Dota are the Battlefield and CoD of moba's. Everything else might sell a few copies but will never bump them off their thrones.

Talks about MOBAs, doesn't even mention SMITE. Which has radically different (3rd person action-oriented) gameplay but similar strategies. I must say though some skill shots are hard to land which may scare people away.

Players aren't stupid, either they like DOTA games, or they dont. Dota 2 and League of Legends has already brought in most of the potential DOTA market. It's like Coca Cola, and Pepsi if you will. So would you do a switcheroo on your favorite black sugar, for something called Wannabe Cola? Nope, because you are satisfied with how your original poison of choice makes you feel. Said very simply: If it ain't broke, why fix it.

@ShimmerMan @holtrocks They are competitive, meaning you play against other players. So the fact that you think they are simple, means you were one of the best right? You apparently beat everyone?

I like Smite.

I would say here that the lot of them have had their spirit sapped out by commercialization.

The original MOBAs were mods which did not sequester their player characters behind paywalls or grind-walls; these later ones do.

I'd love to see a Star Wars MOBA. Plenty of characters and abilities to draw from.

I don't play MOBAs but I wonder if the people who play them a lot would enjoy playing some of them only occasionally. I'm always imagining MOBA fans as super competitive, and I feel like they wouldn't want to dabble in a bunch of them only here and there because they wouldn't enjoy being one of those noobs again, or just a part-time player who isn't especially good.

Actually I only see Heroes of the Storm as the only contender against DotA 2, LoL and (trying to stay still) Smite. DotA was the first MOBA off them all, and is the hardest one, by far. LoL is easier and has a lot more advertising than the others, so this combo (easiness + advertising) makes the game to be one of the best. And well... Smite is other story. It has a different gameplay, so it's different from the rest. I guess that's why the game may be one of the three best games.

About the new MOBAs to come, Dawngate doesn't seem to be a game that brings nothing new to this genre, nor does Arena of Fate and neither Dead Island's "ZOMBA" (actually, we must see about that "rolechange" that characters have in Dawngate, but the rest... lets admit it, zombies are not new). This is why I think Heroes of the Storm is the only MOBA that can stand against the actual "monsters" of this new genre. It promises a whole new style of gameplay and different characters, with other vission of this type of game.

Where the heck is Smite?

DOTA 2 is the lord of all games, sure the player base is full of Aholes but other games are just piles of poop when compared to the ORIGINAL MOBA

eventually DOTA 2 will remian on the throne of MOBA games until the age of MOBAs ends
