My recent 'favourite' is Wolfenstein's General Deathshead. The scary thing is, there were actually people like him during WW2 (e.g. Josef Mengele and other charming gentlemen).

Good point about FC3's Vaas. The actor who voiced him should get an Oscar.

Don't forget Vamp from MGS! He gutted Otocon's sister, drinks blood, his nano machins wont let him die, and he is getting constantly creeper up until his death in MGS4

Vaas is my all time favorite game villain. Michael Mando did such an awesome job

C'mon... RPGs are full of crazy people, there's simply pointlessly mad like Kefka (FF6), or madly insane (with a point lol) like Luca Blight (Suikoden 2), or people driven mad by their goals like Romeo Guildenstern (Vagrant Story), the <avoid spoilers> crazy like Id from Xenosaga, let's not miss crazy scientists who have no moral values at all like Hojo (FF7) or of course driven to insanity by realizations of what they are like Sephiroth (FF7) (tho I never actually considered him crazy, some people do, so w/e) etc.

Then fighting games... too many to list all characters, but I'd just go for one of my favorites... Nightmare/Night Terror from SoulCalibur

And as person below my mentioned... Joker

Wouldn't the joker from Batman Arkham Asylum (my favorite game in the series) be an ideal example of a villain who is "batshit crazy"

I just remembered an epic bad guy: Magus!! Solitary, scheming, and powerful... He is the type of villain that makes life a living hell, but without whom the narrative would not be as interesting. And the fact that you could play as him toawards the end was all the more rewarding.

Add my vote to the pile of those suggesting Kefka Palazzo from Final Fantasy VI. That laugh, as he literally twists the world to his whim, is such a macabre amusement.

Glad that game came out during the 16-bit era, otherwise my extreme fear of clowns would've made it impossible to finish.

before I watched this episode I had already thought of a villain I WAS gonna put in comments but already mentioned, "Have I ever told you the definition of insanity?" and no surprise about GLaDOS...chicks love GLaDOS XD

I liked Vaas and Handsome Jack as villains but they weren't great villains. They were so over the top they were just funny. Sure they tried to kill you a lot but they didn't depict a complex dark side of the human condition.

The villains I really hated were those black assassins in Demon Souls that you got in NG. Whenever you saw them you'd say, Oh crap, these guys again.

What about Psycho Mantis, Vamp, Solidus Snake, Killer Goldfish, The Elder God ((My favorite villain)) Legacy of Kain), Gwyn, Gwyndolin and pretty much everyone in Dark Souls, SHODAN, Andrew Ryan, J.S Steinman, Piggsy, Sander Cohen, Dahlia Gillespie, Dr. Killjoy, Molluck... There are so many great villains.

A lot of people are mentioning this Kefka, a villain I had never heard of until now :).

Maybe Yuri too from Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge. A brilliant, power hungry, mad, and psychic Soviet villain? Yes, please.

I'm appreciate villains with brilliance and/or power but who very much want their own way more than villains who are outright mad. But of the few mad ones that I have seen, I nominate the cultists from dragon's Dogma. There was this particular cutscene at the end in which the head of the cult summoned the dragon (the final boss), then morphed into a powerful spectre-mage-thing to fight your and your party.

To morph into the spectre-mage-thing, he held a magic sword out in front of him and called to two of his subordinates. They looked at the sword, and without hesitation screamed and sprinted at the blade and impaled themselves on it.

That's madness.

Pyramid Head was certainly one of the scariest villain I've came across especially during earlier encounters where you have to run from him. Prior to being popularized by Amnesia, I don't think there were many horror gameplay at that time that forces the player to flee from a scary monster.

I agree with GlaDOS, although I think Cave Johnson was as crazy as GlaDOS if not more.

Heihachi Mishima (Tekken)-

Threw his son 'Kazuya' off a cliff, twenty years later flys his body halfway round the world to throw his unconscious body down a volcano!

Heihachi trained a grizzly bear karate and made it his pet.

Heihachi beats all this with Tag Tournament 2 ending. Flys into outa space, dumping his son Kazuya and his grandson Jin Kazama into the sun.

Badass.

He may not have been completely crazy from the beginning, although he does become increasingly mad as the series progresses, but I totally loved Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man in Mass Effect.

GlaDOS is one mentally unstable puppy. Very memorable indeed.
