just for the people that thinks it's obvious, we Mexicans do not wear masks, sombreros or zarapes. we sometimes wear skeleton suits, but not when it's cold. there are no talking stone heads beyond the south and we are not full luchadores if we don't wear a 30 inch wide belt.

we don't listen to mariachi and don't travel in donkeys and horses also pay parking tickets. we don't live in cantinas. well, i do, but chickens stay outside. and we do not live from cerveza an tequila, we also eat tacos but taco bell's tacos are not actually tacos.

we don't eat everything with what you know as cheese, only cheese hamburgers at macdonalds (yes, there are some macdonald's here) but we do sprikle cheese all over the food. strawberries taste specially good with cheese. we don't eat nachos, but we eat burritos, i love chocolate burritos.

but something i don't like is guacamele being called mexican, because a stormtrooper is more mexican than guacamele.

as an extra, the music on feedbackula is not mexican either.

hell i wear boots instead of sandals, i must be less mexican than i think.

@philippnovikov @ZombieGuyGeorge i so want to see a mexican hacker or a mexican band of mercenaries as comedy villains. a least it'd be funnier than asian hacker or russian henchmen. oh well, gotta stick to the droug cartel stereotype above the indian with sombrero ayeayeaye version.

@ziproy @ZombieGuyGeorge actually, every game portrays mexico like this. maybe not fifa. but everywhere else, mexicans are sombrero wearing indians with "aye aye aye" in every sentence. or droug cartel meatfronts.

@games2525@ZombieGuyGeorge in the Olympics, people brought camping tents and bottled water, they didn't know we had hotels and drinkable water. they also brought life insurance against bandidos and brought extra cars in case pancho villa simpatizers stole them.

funny thing, pancho villa is actually a historical hero in my country, and I live right in front of a monument to him.

@ziproy btw, just brought despicable me and mexicans are not salsa dancers. crunchy sombreros with guacamole on top were actually invented by gringos. also, we don't actually make a party on 5 de mayo on dead people, but the battle of puebla. day of the dead is november the 2nd. piñatas and ponche are actually christmas related. it's just that every depiction of a mexican beyond the border actually gives me mixed feelings of sadness and shame.

@ZombieGuyGeorge Ummm, dude I don't know exactly what stereotypes you've been hearing about Mexicans, but none of the ones you listed are the ones that people are actually saying. The ones people are actually saying are considerably more offensive.

Thanks to PS+ I will get 2 of those titles for free!

I thought the title of the second game was "Engaging Story" because I missed "Swapper."

I have and thoroughly enjoyed both Guacamelee! and Puppeteer, and luckily Brothers and Don't Starve are free this month for Playstation Plus. Been trying to get The Swapper since it came out, but I keep missing it being on sale. My vote for underlooked game of last year would definitely be Rogue Legacy.

I initially liked the looks of Puppeteer and it's awesome character models and animation, but something just put me off it. I dunno, maybe I should look into it.

I haven't heard of The Swapper, but I'd very much like to play it now.

Great shirt Jess. I plan on playing brothers when it goes for free on ps plus, played guacamelee, waiting for don't starve to come to the vita, should have picked up swapper off steam sales but somehow missed it, and bought the puppeteer off a ps plus sale, but haven't got around to playing it yet. I like your choice in indies, keep up the great work.

I ended up playing Brothers over the holidays, loved it. Gameplay was a bit simplistic but I found myself wanting to see what was gonna happen with the two lads. And that suicide scene..haunting.

I find these bite size arcade / indie titles offer some of the most memorable experiences. I actually bought Swapper during the Steam sale not even knowing what it is, looked interesting from the videos. I think I'll give it a try now sooner than later since Jess gives the thumbs up.

Awww. I bought "The Swapper" and "Don't Starve" after watching Indie Hour. The Swapper definitely one of my best games of last year.

For me The Bridge was the best game that most people probably didn't play.

@unikat I played The Bridge. I didn't really like The Bridge. It was good, probably worth that low Steam price tag for most, but I wouldn't call it the best.

Puppeteer is a blatant rip off of dynamite heddy >.< Not that that's a bad thing. Since it was a great game, but saying it's a sidescroller like you've never seen before is a bit of a stretch :)

@Ayato_Kamina_1 That happens a lot, well maybe not straight up blatant ripoffs (I wouldn't know if it really is since I'd never even heard of Dynamite Headdy until just now) but certainly games having things that are praised as new or unique when in fact they've already been done.

Couple things to bear in mind, gaming journalists are not like super expert keepers of gaming knowledge and history, and even with research it's hard to always find those cases. Also, age alone can be a major limiting factor. If you're in your early 20s, it's likely you are not going to know about games that came out in the early 90s unless they were massively popular or somehow special titles. In this case, maybe it's more likely, since I see Dynamite Headdy had multiple re-released versions on newer platforms, but still you get the general idea. On top of all that, it's a subjective thing to what extent games ripoff other games, so who knows.

Finally, remember that for any gaming news piece, there's always likely to be a reader out there with more knowledge of that particular topic than the person who wrote the piece :).

I picked up Guacamelee during the Steam winter sale. Before that I also got Don't Starve and The Swapper. I am very intrigued by Puppeteer. Hopefully that will go on sale sometime so I can pick it up.

Since it went on sale, I actually went back and gave Brothers a go despite not really seeing the appeal of it when I played the demo back in the summer.

While it definitely grew on me the more I got into it and the final moments in particular are brilliant, (the "act" you have to do was one of the most harrowing things I've ever experienced in a game) I personally still don't think it's as great as some have made it out to be recently. The controls, while certainly unique, were often a major source of frustration for me.

However if you love a good story, I'd still recommend it in a heartbeat.

Brothers and Guacamelee! are both fantastic games. Brothers is definitely one of my top games last year, really really loved that game, anyone that can play that game should. Haven't played the other 3 on that list, but hopefully will get the chance at some point :-)
