STAR WARS: The Old Republic Deceived Cinematic Trailer

In celebration of 10 years of SWTOR, we’re re-releasing all of our classic cinematic trailers enhanced. “Deceived” was initially launched on June 1st, 2009.

The year-long celebration of our 10th anniversary kicks off with Legacy of the Sith, a new expansion that marks the starting point to a full year of galactic intrigue, conflict, and mystery. Legacy of the Sith will send players to the darkest depths and farthest reaches of the galaxy and unlock the ability to choose your personal combat style, allowing for more options than ever before when it comes to living in your own Star Wars fantasy.

I pre-ordered this game when it came out, only to quit a few months later because it was a real grind, like really tedious cookie cutter content and a punishing XP levelling curve.

But I decided to give it a try again in 2018 because it was Free to Play and, genuinely, I've played nearly all the class stories now and had a lot of fun. It's still the same dated mechanics, BUT it's much more accessible now without the endless levelling slog. So you can play out the class stories at a reasonable pace and even cutout the planetary stories altogether if you wish with the XP Bonus items you get.

I loved the Knights of the Fallen Empire/Eternal Throne expansion story. It felt just like a single player SW game with excellent characters, a very Bioware story and interesting take on SW lore and mythology. It was way better than anything Disney have produced for SW.

I still haven't played Onslaught, and with the Legacy of the Sith expansion coming soon, there are a lot of reasons to get back into it.

Sucks that I never got around to playing this. I know it pretty much craps on KotoR's story but it still puts up a solid singleplayer experience.

@Barighm: BioWare largely ruined the single play aspect several years ago when they rebalanced the combat in all the story focused content to be so incredibly easy it's nearly impossible to lose. You don't need engage with gear optimization, or learning how to use your abilities, or perfecting any kind of rotation. If you let them, your AI companion can literally solo bosses while your character watches.

They kinda took all the game out of the bulk of SWTOR's content. The end game still presents varying degrees of challenge, but the thing that actually set SWTOR apart was all the story content; and it nearly plays itself.

By far, the best MMORPG ever made for solo players.

@sty1e_bender: I agree as they may be scared to think outside of the box and there could be more to other characters other than Darth Vader, Luke, Princess Leia and the other OGs. I like to see more on General Thrawn who had his own legacy in the books which took place after the death of Darth Vader and he can be ruthless but calculative as DV.

Ironic how we were "deceived" into thinking that the game would look as good as the trailer.

@luckylogan: yeah I’m gonna go ahead and say that was just you. The attempt at a joke just kinda backfired on that one 😂

@luckylogan: Deceived? Not in the slightest unless watching the trailers was the first thing you've ever seen of SWTOR and clicked buy right after. Nobody expected the game to even look a quarter as good as the trailers.

@luckylogan: I mean, we'd seen screenshots of SWTOR before any of the CG trailers came out. We knew what it'd look like going in.
