If you work for Gamespot then you should be able to answer my question? Not look it up?

@phillipstone020765:

1: computernoises doesn't work for GS

2: What they meant was that it wasn't really on topic and that you should research that answer yourself. If you googled Watchdogs 2 and checked out shopping links you would easily see the difference between packages.

It's never said in the game, but I like to believe the hacking in Watch Dogs is really scripting. You write scripts and then you run them at the press of a button. So it actually is hacking, but since it's an action game the code is already written and you're just using various macros.

Did you really say Hacknet is the closest you'll get to real hacking in a video game?

Have you not seen Hackmud? It's an online game that involves actual hacking. You need to have some understanding of programming in order to play it.

I don't personally think it's a good game, but Hackmud is actual hacking in a video game. I prefer the Hollywood style where you don't have to be a programmer.

In terms of just gameplay and having hacking in a game I liked Enter The Matrix cus once you figured out the hacking you could do all sorts of stuff like preload weapons in levels and what not even give you items you couldn't normally get......

also it seemed like some parts of the game relied on stuff you had to do in the terminal.....IDK, it's been a long time since I played it, I clearly remember dropping weapons into,levels as a boost but I know there was other features in the terminal you could get active.....

Enter The Matrix, not the best game ever but the hacking bit in it was cool.....

Need to watch this once I get on- wifi. My 2 cents- hacking in video games typically involves equipping an acquired device, and 'using' that device when your told to use it..then watching some "hacking" occur to get through an artificial door to progress through the game..this was nothing more than replacing Doom's red, blue, and yellow keys with a hacking activity.

I believe real world hacking though involves actually sniffing the communication interface (without being detected) figuring out a way to blend in your messages with the protocol without detection, and getting the information you want or executing a command you want or changing the number of popular votes in states with a high electoral college vote count ...anonymously. And your not sitting there by yourself doing it if it's a big job... there is going to be an army of hackers working together to accomplish the mission and cover one another's tracks while in the process.

Hacking is such a negative word whereas the ability to hack something can be for a good reason. The problem is that criminals use it to defraud and even worse.

Back to topic: I've only played Watchdogs 1+2 which had hacking as a a part of gameplay (as far as I remember) and it never made me feel like a hacker but it did make me think more about the world of hacking and, consequently, try to protect myself from potential hacks in a much greater way.

@computernoises: Life hacks are just short cuts for anything in life rather than anything code related. It is a cheesy bit of phraseology though.
