I still get nightmares about Doom 3. For the love of god, duct tape a flashlight on that damn gun.

DOOM is what makes me proud to be a gamer. i was a kid when that game came out and still play it till this day. i also think ita 8-bit death metal music was also what made the game do brainwashing, even my father played the game. ID i salute you!!!!!!!!!

I'm in love with Rage. It's nothing NEW or innovative... but it's REALLY STINKIN FUN. There's so much to do and it all works really well. Shooting is so satisfying. Racing and car combat is really addicting. Even the card game is pretty fun (albeit a bit frustrating). It doesn't blow me away the same way Quake 1 and 2 did, but it's still really fun AND... it's gorgeous!

If you're gonna present facts, you should probably at least get these basics figured out first: Doom 3 came out in 2004, Quake 4 in 2005 - and id didn't invent the FPS. They did make it popular though.

@SDBusDriver1979 And can you believe enemy territory was FREE!?! That still boggles my mind how one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had in my life cost me absolutely nothing.

Doom(1-2) & Hexen were my first PC games. It was a huge change from playing the SNES & Megadrive. They were both awesome. I was almost suprised my parents got me them, being extemely violent for its time. It was also my first look at FPS.

@jmace1 I'm with you 100%. Out of all the ID games, RTCW and RTCW:ET I would be running 1.5 miles just to get home from school to open up a pepsi and some bagel bites and play non stop for hours straight. The sense of teamwork where people lined up against walls for other players to use them as stairs to get over that wall to achieve objectives was amazing. Then the mods for ET came and changed all the sound bites into arnold schwarzenegger quotes was priceless. *tear I want to be in high school again ironically when talking about that game.

@jmace1 it was a decent game, but its mp mechanics were lifted fromTFC on a side-note quake2 is also partly responsible for "gooseman's" popularity, the creator of counterstrike mod(eventually bought by valve) got his start with a very popular mod for quake2 called 'action quake'

DID THIS NUT JUST SAY RTCW WAS AN AVERAGE GAME!?!?! That games multiplayer was one of the best class based systems of the time and was influential in several ways such as medic revives, lieutenants calling in airstrikes and supplying ammo. It had excellent maps, and a great community. Shame on you!!

so many sweet memories.... there is a lot of people who like ID games, there are many, who do not... I guess it is a question of personal preferences, but there is something nobody could deny: most of ID games not only entered into the History, but, for sure, changed it...

Doom 2: hell on earth is id software's best game period. Doom 3 is great too, only different compared to the first two, more horror atmosphere i guess. Rage is not bad, but it's not a dark game, and there is something missing compared to there previous games. And who cares about race/shooting battles in online mp, it's not twisted metal, it's a FPS. So they should have made a competitive multi-player shooter, without cars and just with standard weapons, no perks and customization, just raw. (like in the old days)

He's right. Everyone had a shareware copy of Commander Keen. I loved that game as a kid. I never realized it was from the same guys who made Wolfenstein and Doom (which I never played). Interesting stuff.

I can't say enough good things about Id Software, they have consumed so much of my gaming life all the way back to when I was a kid loading Doom on DOS. Quake and Doom are games I always go back to time and time again, I think I have played through Doom 3 and Quake 2 more times then I can count. With Rage I have gotten everything I enjoy about games in one package, great gunplay, vehicular combat and deadly enemies to shoot in the face :)

I still play Doom 2 from time to time. All the ID games were great, but Doom 2 is not just a game masterpiece, it's art. New games may look better, but they're nowhere as fun. You beat a campaign once, you forget about it, but one could play Doom 2 a hundred times from start to finish and it never got old nor boring.
