but no one decided "hey we are putting everything up... why don't we upgrade the sound engine and put a better version of music?" would of changed the "tone" of the whole game.
Is it me or is it still the same even in 720p.. I get the impression they're still, for some reason, trying to accomodate for old systems. It could just be done through a simple graphical mod... in turn making it even more 'HD'.... and free perhaps.
It doesnt look like it is remastered or hd. It looks like they just readjusted it for 1080p and added some online features. It is still the old good game.
doesnt look much like a remake to me, probably some improved textures and an upscale on the resolution, but you could do that with the original in some small part years ago.. still a great game though, ah the memories of early p2p lan sessions and dodgy dial up connection online multiplayer, brings a tear to my eye for more than just nostalgia :)
Yes, yes and yes!!! I can't wait to play this game! I wanna see it for real if its going to be in HD!
Doesn't matter. Its good to see that they remastered a game that is so good. Shows to us that they didn't abandon the game completely and may even make a Sequel to AGE OF MYTHOLOGY. which I particularly think it deserves a chance!
One of the best RTS out there that left a legacy and thousands of fans.
But this is not the subject. AOE2 is going to be replayed over and over by me. Now in HD.
I have been playing the original for years but can't see much difference on the HD video here apart from the sea looking nicer. I'm not going to spend money on this. Now if Relic remakes AOK after COH2...
Perhaps the screenshots and trailers don't do the game justice, but I simply don't see much difference between the HD edition and the original version. They could have swapped out the sprite-based engine for an entirely new 3D engine without changing the gameplay. (For that matter, they could even have allowed the player to switch between sprites and 3D models midgame!)
My first impressions may be mistaken, but I feel they could have done much more with the rerelease.
TERRIBLE. Instead of throwing money away on developers to recreate a game (in horrible HD by the way) why not put the money towards building a new AoE game? what a waste.
@TruSake I think we're all fans of the original enough to agree. I was happy when I saw the headline/link, and saw the video and was like, is this an April Fool's deal? The music hasn't been touched at all and only the water looks 3 shades better. Would love a nostalgic rebirth of a classic but rehashed in this decade for god sakes.
No point of comparison to Starcraft, they're both RTS, but they're way too different... I'm down with this remake, I'll try to get it as soon as it releases.
Now, make a HD version of Red Alert, Dune 2, Doom, Doom 2, Warcraft 2, Starcraft Brood War, Simcity 2000, Simcity 3000, Resident Evil, Duke Nukem, Need for Speed 2, Fifa 96
