It's A Great Game, But Some Minor Issues Are What Keep It From Its Full Potential
User Rating: 7.5 | Triple Play '99 PS
I've tried out Baseball sims by 989 sports, 2K sports, Slugfest, and The Show games. They had their ups and downs. Now I tried Triple Play and it plays out like your typical baseball sims on the PS1, complete with your basic quick play, season mode, home run derby, etc. These modes and the overall presentation are all actually pretty decent and not all that bad for the time, but there are some things that hold the game back from its full potential. For example, the contols are a bit overly complicated and you'll sometimes have to keep backtracking to the manual to figure out which button combinations are required to throw a ball to first base, or whateverand you'll have to memorize A LOT of these button combinations to get through the game (i.e: x plus d pad to throw to a specified base). Also, some of the player animations and designs are rather blocky, but graphics dont matter; the gameplay matters. If you can get past the seemingly steep learning curve when it comes to the controls, and stomach the seemingly blocky animations, Triple Play 99 will be a thrilling baseball experience!
