Late to the party.. but this party never ends
With this game, in the comfort of my living room, I have really grown to appreciate the subtleties and skill that are involved in the game of golf. This is easily the most addictive sports game in my collection.
To find out why this is a great game, you are better off checking out the reviews here on gamespot. Instead I would like to point out a couple of points you should be aware of if you are lucky enough to pick up this title second hand at EB or something.
First of all, there is a steep learning curve to the game of golf. I would highly suggest creating a new golfer, perhaps yourself, perhaps your perfect match, and start from nothing. In this way you can learn everything at an easy pace, and by doing so really appreciate everything that is going on in the game. If you jump in and play with Tiger Woods, you might find reflected glory, but it won't be half as fulfilling.
Also I have learned that the green "grid" is does not mark any consistent unit of length. This can be quite frustrating, as trying to eyeball the lie of the green can be tricky on a wide screen tv (this version of PGA Tour doesn't support wide screen, but it looks kind of cool stretched) and the difference of 1 inch can cost you the tour and hundreds of thousands of dollars. That being said, it also forces you to learn how to really eye ball the lie. The grid gives you a general sense of depth, but it really doesn't help measure actual distance.
These aren't downsides to the game, they are just hazards along the course. They make you a better golfer I think. Well you know, armchair golfer.
I give this game an extra point for saving my kidneys, and for saving me a little face out there.
Seriously though, get this. It's one of the absolute best.
