Want a great Tekken game for your PS2. but don't have the money to buy Tekken 5? Don't worry, you're in luck...

User Rating: 9.1 | Tekken Tag Tournament (Platinum) PS2
So what if its 6 years old now? This game still amazes me everytime I play it. Every character from Tekken to Tekken 3 (minus Gon and Dr.B... but who used them anyway?) is featured on this game. Also, the 2 on 2 tag system, which hasn't been brought back since this game, was introduced in this game. That means, yes you guessed it, us rabid fans who insist that Kazuya and Jun were a true couple can finally have our dream team! Better yet, every character was given new moves and some teams (such as Kaz and Jun or Jin and Ling) have special Tag Team moves. Also, if you pair Kazuya and Devil together, you get special tag out animations for that team.

Enough of my rambling about that. The game itself has all your classic Tekken modes, such as Arcade, Team Battle, and Survival, as well as a 1 on 1 mode for those who just wanna play some oldschool Tekken. The newest mode on the game was the highly addictive Tekken Bowl. This allowed you to take your 2 favorite characters into a game of bowling. (Yes! A Kazuya and Jun dating sim!) Each character had different stats (The JACKs had an enormous power rating, while Jun was a slow roller, as one might expect.) and the pins were Hwoarang's famous Heihachi head trophies from his Tekken 3 ending. Maybe Namco will bring it back in Tekken 6 or Tag 2?

The stage music, while there were a few great standouts (Ogre and Xiayou), was pretty much awful. Yoshimitsu's stage actually had lyrics, and they had me wondering "Have my ears gone insane?". Seriously. The menu music and staff roll was really good though, but the crappy stage music killed everything. I'd wear my headphones, but I would miss hearing that magical "TWAH!" sound from Kazuya.

The graphics are still top notch for the PS2 and were the best in the early days until GT3 came along.

In closing, like I said before, if you need a great Tekken game and don't have the money for the almighty Tekken 5, go out and pick this one up. It won't let you down like Tekken 4 would.
