StarCraft falls short on the whizzbangs the grits of RTS games that have been coming since StarCraft
Sadly, Starcraft II lacks some meats and gores that have been supplied by some games that have come since the age of Starcraft. Heck, I feel like I have more fun playing Command and Conquer:Generals Zero Hours. The intense battles, the bullets hitting the metals, the grim nukes, the large battlefields, jets cruising and hammering bases. None to be found here. Instead, for a space-themed sci-fi RTS, StarCraft II has less sci-fi feelings and feels more like WarCraft III mod and graphics upgrade. You can not feel the metal to metal skirmishes here, even though you are seeing Terran Marines being bulleted down by other Terran Marines. They all feel organic. Heck, the crystalline Protoss doesn't feel like ceramics. They all feel like Zergs: organic and splat when killed down.
But the arts look good though and not so taxing. That's a plus. The music is atmospheric and doesn't distract. The voices, on the other hands, feel unpolished and in dire need of a overhaul. You simply can not feel anything hearing SCV's "Well, butter my biscuit" or Marauders "Been waiting on you!". Even "I'm in a world of hurt" cry given out by the Marines feel flat.
In the end, StarCraft II is just another RTS. Sure, the world's will see mods coming, sure many of WOW players will want to try this. But for real RTS feeling, try Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour. Now that's what I call A WAR!
