Excellent Starfox action adventure on the go! A must for fans!

User Rating: 8.5 | Star Fox Command DS
Starfox Assault initially brought the series back to its roots after a large loss of altitude which was Starfox Adventures, however it didn't provide enough experience to make the game more memorable, now comes Starfox Command for the DS, while graphical downgrade is something you can't miss the intense air combat and dog fighting mayhem we loved from Starfox 64 has returned and its as fun as ever.

Shortly after the events of Starfox Assault, the Starfox team has once again found its foundation on the verge of collapse, Falco once again left the team in order to find more excitement without limitation while Slippy has left the team due affairs with his fience, Fox and Krsytal's relationship has intensified, because of this Fox felt that having her on the team would not only hinder his performance but may also expose Krystal to many dangers, having considered this Fox dismissed Krystal from the team, and so with a broken heart Krystal left the team and disappeared into space.
After General Pepper passed away Peppy has become the new General of the Cornerian army and has since supported Fox from the desk, being the only member of the team Fox and ROB have set out the galaxy in search of new recruits and challenges in order to finance their organisation.
A few years have passed, the Lylat system found itself under the attack of the Anglers, a race that resides in the toxic seas of Venom, it was up to Starfox to put a stop to the Angler's assaults and save the Lylat system once again.

Starfox Command sticks closer to the franchises root than ever before, since this is the DS we are talking about I don't have much comment on the graphics since I can't really say its impressive.
There are various modes to choose from, the Story mode takes you through a multitude of endings depending on the choices of paths you take.
The story goes in a fashion similar to Starfox 64, before a battle there will be a briefing segment, you will be given choices as to what actions you should take in order to progress through the story, each choices will give you different paths and as such different access to aircraft and inevitably endings.
Once you choose a path you will be taken to a battle field navigation screen, similar to a board game you will be controlling the flight units that you have and will be given objectives such as destroying enemy mother ships or bases, there will be a limit as to where you can move and how long per turn so its important to plan ahead and predict enemy movements, once your flight unit interacts with enemies in its projected flight path you will engage in a dog fight battle field where you will be piloting aircrafts to shoot down targets.

You will control the Aircrafts using the stylus and its very simple to learn, you can push the stylus forward to activate the thrusters or push it back to break, other classic move sets such as U turns and summersaults make a return, the barrel roll receives an upgrade, in addition to better manoeuvre and deflecting projectile attacks the spin will create a magnetic force field that will draw items towards the aircrafts, so you won't have to try to catch them by flying at them.
You can attack enemies by shooting lasers, charged beams and bombs, though unlike previous games there will be no laser upgrades during combat, though its not like you will need it.
You will be flying various aircrafts from the Arwings to Wolfens but you will only fly aircrafts, so no Landmaster, no Blue Marine, no foot.
The Game will be over if you lose all lives for every aircraft, run out of turns or the Great Fox is destroyed, strategy is very important here.

Apart from Story mode there is a competitive local LAN mode and a Worldwide multiplayer mode where players can engage in dog fights with their selected aircrafts and characters.

Sound wise the game doesn't have any voice actors apart from the animal chipping affect if it counts. The game features some new soundtracks and remixes of old soundtracks that fans of the series should recognize.

Starfox Command is a great game and definitely a step forward for the series, the board game segment is a welcoming feature (though I don't know if the young audience will say the same) multiplayer is pretty fun and the game's long story and multi paths endings are definitely a plus, the only quarrels I have with the game is poor graphics of the DS, the annoying chipping voices of the characters and the lack of varying vehicles, otherwise Starfox Command is a great game and fans of the series shouldn't be disappointed.
