The Spongebob series get a new game with a new developer. Good thing? Not really.

Ever feel pretty mad when some of your favorite series get new developers and the games start beginning to suck? Like the Super Monkey Ball series for example. Amusement Vision were doing a great job on the series. But then the series went downhill when Traveler's Tales took over and made Super Monkey Ball Adventure. The series has been going downhill ever since. So, it happens to the Spongebob series. What are the results? Just as people predicted, bad. But it's not as bad as what happen to Super Monkey Ball. Spongebob Squarepants: Creature From The Krusty Krab is actually pretty decent. But doesn't improve from Battle For Bikini Bottom and Movie.

Creature From the Krusty Krab sounded like a pretty good concept for a Spongebob game for the first time in my opinion. It goes back to the roots of Battle For Bikini Bottom and Movie with some changes and some more new gameplay mechanics. Like the racing one that is new to the Spongebob series. The rocket shooting genre is also new to the series. Plus other new ones. But those are the two main ones. This game is basically a multi-genre game. Which isn't such a good idea in my opinion. It turned out alright. You get to play as three of your favorite characters. Spongebob, Starfishman [Patrick] and new to the playable characters, Plankton. Plankton is a lovely addition but there should be more characters.

The story is what makes this game's concept so interesting. Spongebob and two of his friends are sleeping one night and you get to play as them in their dreams. You get to live their dreams but, as their dreams continue, they get worst and worst and aren't able to wake up. This makes the game very interesting in story terms.

This game has many different types of gameplay so I'll go through all of the gameplay machanics. The first level is where you play as Spongebob with a mix of racing and platforming. The racing genre really isn't anything different from the other racing games really. Here's a really funny fact. When you're racing against someone, you AREN'T racing them! They're just there to give you obstacles to avoid! You really go against the clock instead. Racing is a bit uncreative but is still fun. The racing genre appears in the first level and the last level.

Platforming gameplay is the one you'll see the most from this game. Which is really good news. The platforming in the previous Spongebob games are what made the previous Spongebob games great. Spongebo and Patrick have this kind of gameplay. Plankton has something similar but it really isn't platforming. Spongebob and Patrick have differences in their platforming though. Spongebob's platforming involves alot of jumping style to his. Plus a little bit of a beat-em-up genre feel to it a little. Patrick's gameplay is alot like a beat-em-up. Considering he's a superhero in this game and the fact he protects citizens by destroying the bad guys. Really, Spongebob's gameplay is the one that's better in my opinion. He has the classic gameplay that made the old games great. Patrick's gameplay is still good though. It's sad this gameplay has no multiplayer. Cause I think these levels would be perfect with multiplayer. Platforming is in the first level, the second level, the fourth level, and the eighth level.

The 2-D style kind of gameplay is played with only Plankton. This gameplay has Plankton running away from a man-eating patty jumping from platform to platform and using the Dispiculator [Freeze Ray] to destroy objects. Yeah, the game tries to be funny and calls the Freeze Ray that. Plankton's exclusive gameplay is pretty cool and fun. Reminds me of The Cat And The Hat video game. As it was 2-D and 3-D at the same time like this gameplay mechanic. This gameplpay is pretty fun and hopefully it'll appear in future Spongebob games. This gameplay is in the third level.

The rocket gameplay is another gameplay mechanic that Spongebob and Patrick share. You basically are flying on a rocket/plane and avoid obsticles and shoot stuff. You also grab fuel so that you can keep flying. If you run out of fuel, your plane is gonna fall. I like this gameplay alot as it is fun and easy and is just as good as the 2-D style and platform style gameplays. Blitz Games actually tried to make this type fun unlike the driving genre. This gameplay appears in the fifth level and the seventh level.

The last type of gameplay is another Plankton exclusive one. It's where you play as a gigantic Plankton and go through Bikini Bottom smashing everything up. It's a beat-em-up genre. This gameplay is probably the worst out of all of them. I bet alot of people will say, "No way!". That's because this type of gameplay looks really awesome. But is released in a horrible way. Plankton goes incredibly slow in this level and his attacks don't always hit what you want it to hit. Avoiding attacks is completely useless cause Plankton moves so slow it's impossible. This gameplay appears in the sixth level.

Graphics are even worst then what I just discussed in the above paragraph. Graphics from Blitz Games are predictable. Horrible. Some cutscenes make the characters look absolutely ridiculous. Like in the cutscene before the second level. Patrick looks absolutely horrible. The gameplay graphics aren't that much of a problem. They are not impressive though. Don't look for next gen graphics here.

At least the sound has improved from the previous Spongebob games. The soundtrack rocks. The rock music with a little Spongebob like music sounds so great. Better then some of the tracks in previous Spongebob games. Voices are great too. The show's voices work just as good in the game. Overall, Spongebob Squarepants: Creature From The Krusty Krab is not the best Spongebob game and needs to improve from previous games. This game is incredibly short with no multiplayer too.The game does succeed in its comedy though. If you are a die-hard Spongebob fan, I suppose you'll like this. But if you're looking for an improvement, rent this first.
