It only takes a second for you to either be victorious or crash and burn!

I usually avoid racing games mainly cause I get bored quickly, but this one caught my eye. I like the idea of being able to cause explosions to wipe out your opponents and also changing the route.

The good stuff:
The graphics are amazing from the detail of the vehicles and scenery to the high impact explosions. I also like how quickly something could change or an explosion could go off. You must have quick reflexes to take the best action to survive the race and take 1st place. Best thing about the explosions is the effect it can have on the different types of vehicles. Depending on the strength of the car, the explosion can either slightly move you around or make you lose complete control and crash. There are also shortcuts to look for but you got to be fast because as soon you or an opponent opens up a shortcut it will close quickly. The game offers some fun races such as survival, air strike, and air revenge. The different challenges it offers will keep it interesting for awhile. Split Second also has a huge variety of cars for you to unlock.

The bad stuff:
Even though i had a lot of fun playing this game i started to notice a good amount of flaws plus the season mode was becoming frustrating. To trigger explosions you need to gain power for the power plays. To gain this power you must drift, draft, or jump but mostly your drifting. It wasn't a bad idea but sometimes the drift seems to be a hit or miss. The controls (especially on turns) seem to tight and when you try to drift sometimes they are more disastrous than helpful. I like the decent collection of cars you unlock but it seems like they just randomized the stats and some vehicles just don't work at all. You can win a simple race with one car but you might lose horribly with another. Yes, some cars are made to be used with certain events and certain tracks but I still think some cars are not efficient. The AI kind of bothers me......something about blowing your opponent out of the way and just like that they catch up to you just doesn't seem right. In season mode the more you complete the harder it gets and that makes sense....but the elite races frustrate me. You are against seven other racers and each one has its own position and its own speed. If you trigger an explosion and take out the first three racers they will catch up and pass you as if the power play never occurred.

Overall I recommend playing Split Second, its full of fun and I'm sure most people will enjoy playing this game....for awhile until you become so frustrated you have to stop playing before you throw something at the TV.
