Simplistic racing fun
In fact, the game doesn't provide much more than that, but that it does really well. The music sucks, but the graphics look great and every now and then, there's a sense of speed unseen in anything but a Burnout game. The only, if you will, strategic element in the racing is the nitrous boost which you fill by performing drifts. Good timing of these is essential to winning races, thereby unlocking new courses and tours to play. Certainly a bit more variety in the gameplay would've been appreciated, as there is only the tour mode, a single race option and a time attack, but again, what Ridge Racer does do, it does well. It's simply not a game that you spend hours at a time with.
