Even without online play Ridge Racer is a fast and fun racer that arcade racing fans should enjoy.
First off the visuals of the game is very impressive and look very sharp. Its also well to note that the game runs at an ultra smooth frame rate so the game feels very fast. In terms of the environments there are some blocky areas but still everything else looks really good.
The sound is also pretty good. The soundtrack is a mix of new and remixed tracks from the older game. All of the tracks are great and they sound great thanks to the great sound quality of the psp. The sound effects do sound pretty decent though here and there some sound effects might be missing but those are quite minor.
The game plays like a traditional ridge racer game would with heavy reliance on drifting and going fast. The drifting is not realistic but once you get the hang of it, it will be pretty seamless to drift. One backset is that the games AI isnt very competetive. The AI wont really try to hard to get back in first or in fornt of you so the game is really a testiment of you trying to get in first rather than try to beat your competitors. Still the game is still really fun.
Though there is no online play the ad-hoc play is great. Up to 8 people with the game can race with you and the gameplay does not really lag or sluggish. Multiplayer races are extremly fun but it would of really benefited from online play.
The single player modes are World tour, Single race and Time trial. all of those modes are good esoecially the world tour mode. Woruld tour is very addictive having you race with fictional cars that look really impressive. It will take you a bit of a while to finish it.
Overall PSP arcade racing fans will enjoy ridge racer because it is really fun and exciting. If your not into arcade racing think about your purchase but if you are a fan of the ridge racer series you owe it to yourself to pick this up.
