It's a fun action game with a ton of combos.. but I have to warn people who use their switch in handheld mode like I do.. This is the most chaotic game I have ever played and it's just too much for the small screen unless you have superhero eyes! I honestly considered a magnifier of some kind just to play this game in handheld. But I decided to just dock it to my 60" instead.. the problem is it's a 4K and switch does not look all that great on 4K TV's. but I got one TV, and that's it. This comment is more of a heads up than anything for portable mode players. Cheers.
I am very disappointed, after finally buying this game (physical thankfully so I can sell it if I want to), that everything is unlocked.. Ok ok, i can unlock some new kart parts by earning coins.. but really, I wanted the thrill of having to come top 3 or preferable first in each grand prix to unlock the next one, and so on. I DO have to give the graphics props, and even in handheld mode it runs without any frame drops.. The illusion of speed is also the best it's ever been in any MK game.. But as a single player with no friends my age (almost 50) that play games at ALL, there's not much here unless I am home with a strong net connection and can race online. I just don't see the value of 80 AUD which is what it costs here.. Granted I paid 65 and it was indeed brand new, but still.. I kind of feel that single player is not even a minor focus of this game..This is a shame, as single people love to play racing games as well LOL.. This is why I loved Sonic all stars so much in the day.. I could not progress without winning races, and I had to spend virtual currency to buy extra characters/tracks for time trials/single races.. Not to forget the mission mode! Honestly, to myself, sonic all stars is still the better game for a single player.. For those with friends (lol) and who are frequently online, then sure, Mario Kart 8 deluxe is a very solid game.
