This is BS because: In order for a video on Youtube to be banned, a company would have to WANT it to be banned. Do you think that most video game companies are going to antagonize their customers by tearing down their videos? Many companies rely on their playerbase to create reliable tutorial videos for them, so why would these be pulled down? Also, the more videos there are out there about games, movies, books, shows, etc., the more hype there is surrounding those things. They don't want to kill their own hype. If this passes, all that will happen is that certain websites will be blocked from within America. The language is seedy, but the application of the law won't be self-cannibalizing as Gamespot is trying to suggest. E3 is a huge event for companies to promote their games to the whole world. The bill doesn't make internet videos of games illegal, it just gives companies the right to decide which content sites have the right to leak out. As far as the anti-piracy bit: I live in Taiwan. I tell you what, corporations. You stop blocking me from downloading movies I paid for on Amazon, watching stuff on Hulu and Netflix, etc., and I'll stop pirating altogether.
@xavo_92 I suppose it'd be reasonable to assume you didn't read the above article, right? Everything you're talking about says ways that Nintendo could "compete" with Sony or Microsoft, when in fact that's not really what they're shooting for at all. That isn't to say they won't do any of those. I'm sure their newer third party titles will appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers. They learned a lesson in this gen regarding that. However, I won't expect a DVD or Blu-Ray player. We have no idea what kind of controller the new console will use so there's no sense in speculating there. And I think they've learned they need something beyond the outdated friend codes they've been using since the fat DS generation. Still, I won't expect it to be as advanced as XBL or PSN.
Censorship is bad. yada yada blah blah. Fact is, this is the most biased and one-sided place for such a discussion to take place because it directly affects us as gamers. In reality we can't say that violent imagery in games doesn't increase aggression and outbursts, can we? We know it does, but like anything else, it's about our right to our own expression, consumption, and moderation. Anyway, I posted below a while ago, and I still want to say, "Shame on the author of this article" for his anti-American bigotry and bitterness. This is a professional website, and part of the reason Australia gets so much censorship coverage here is because YOU POST THESE STORIES. So don't blame the US for having a reasonable reaction. The fact of the matter is that Australia lacks freedom of expression in video games. I'm surprised America has as much as it does, actually, because games like God of War, Gears of War, Mortal Kombat, etc., go way over "the line". What helps is that our gamers here are mostly adults. Voting adults! But I suspect gaming hasn't been popular in Australia for quite as long and to the same degree. I certainly could be wrong though.
Morphine has never existed in the Fallout universe... It's always been Med-X. Also, I found that bit about Americans singing the star-spangled banner, posting something about freedom, blah blah... Well, that was pretty damn ignorant and offensive to be posted on a professional website. It just shows how defensive people have become and how much irrational hate is still going on out there. The fact of the matter is censorship is especially bad in Australia. Sure, I'm sure it's also terrible in 3rd world countries with no rights, but come on! You're Australia.
I have to agree that the Wii MotionPlus is definitely something that shouldn't be paid for. Anyone with a Wiimote should be able to get this add-on for free. We've already sunk enough money into this BS. Nintendo thrives more off its hardware sales than its software sales though, probably, so I can understand from an economic perspective why they felt they had to hold this out on us. Nonetheless, we have been cheated. Wiimote...nunchuck....now this crap? not to mention any other attachments, like the Wii Zapper, you want to buy. But, then again, the PS3 wireless controller is still 45-50 just by itself... And it has crappy games. Hell, at the moment, everyone has crappy games. Lets not kid ourselves. But I like where the Wii is going, I guess. And to the dude who pointed out that sword fight collisions will be a problem... I think programming can/will account for that. Red Steel 2 is supposed to feature sword duels.
Sooooo, how are we defining "hardcore" games? I guess Mad World, House of the Dead: Overkill, Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles, Red Steel 2, Conduit, No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2, Resident Evil 4, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, Darkside Chronicles, Deadspace: Extraction, plus all the other fun first party games for the Wii like Metroid Prime Trilogy, Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, etc... Those aren't hardcore or entertaining enough for you Gears of War fanboys? Please. The Wii is jampacked with content and great "hardcore" games if you're just willing to look around for it. The Wii is outfitted, now more than ever, to provide a shooter experience that will make the 360 and PS3 pee themselves. All of you who think the Wii isn't a hardcore system just because it has some family friendly games thrown in as well... Microsoft and Sony can frickin' have you. I'm just tired of this. Absolutely tired of this.
