The RPG genre is terribly named, too. You’re always playing a role when you’re playing as a character. Why do we say things have RPG elements, when you level up or upgrade skills? You don’t need to do those things to be role-playing. If I’m playing Halo, I’m playing the role of Master Chief. If I’m playing Uncharted, I am Nathan Drake.
“I think we would've gotten a lot of critique if we had tried to [recreate the game], because people would've been like, 'It's not as good. It's not the same actors, because, you know, they're older now,'" he said. "You wouldn't be able to better the game, so you'd just be in a losing situation."
Which is why you don’t make it into a movie in the first place. He’s acting like this movie had to be made. His statement didn’t justify making the movie the way they did. People would have been more accepting of different actors playing the original characters, with the original story, than a movie that has absolutely nothing to do with the game it’s named after. This is a guy who doesn’t get it. He also made Shazam 2… So, there’s really no chance of this being good. It’s a good thing they made it for dirt cheap.
I like how this completely contradicts the other article about how “Oblivion Remastered couldn’t have come at a worse time for some games.” Like I said in that article… that was a made up problem. People who were really interested in this weren’t going to choose Oblivion over it. As for other indies… well, most indies don’t really sell anyways, so it probably didn't make much difference that Oblivion came out.
