Just got a 3DS

Yep. Just bought myself a Nintendo 3DS XL Mario Kart 7 bundle. I haven't opened the box yet, but this is my first Nintendo handheld since the gameboy advance. Not having played the DS, I figured the DS library would provide a ton of extra games I could play on my machine in addition to 3DS games that I will be buying:

Super Mario 3d Land

New Super Mario Bros 2

Resident Evil Revelations

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

I'm sure there will be others too of course, and the 3DS being able to play original DS games that I've missed out on is a huge plus. I am certainly looking forward to testing the machine out. :)

Oh, it's incredibly cold out there. 30 below with Windchill. Very thankful for public transportation.

Favourite games and system wars moments of 2012.

Today is the last day of 2012 and there is no better time to list some of the finest games of 2012, and all of my favourite system wars moments of 2012.

Here are some of my favourite games this year:

Far Cry 3

original.jpg

Far Cry 3 has a massive jungle sandbox to play around in. The game let's you approach situations as you wish. Tigers, bears, bows, jeep bombs, sniping, fire, and dropping on from the air are all possible in this game. And the game looks beautiful to boot, and is a joy to play. Far Cry 3 is my GOTY.

Forza Horizon (i removed the image because it was being a total b*tch)

Forza Horizon was a major risk to take. Newly founded Playground games have never released a game before, and taking one of the best racing franchises and making a spin-off was a massive gamble. Thankfully, it paid off. Colorado is such a beautiful setting and a perfect place to set a open world racing game. The forza physics have made it into Horizon, but the game is approachable for those who don't like endless laps on race tracks. The game blends and arcade wonderfully and sets a new standard for driving physics in open world racing games. Best racing game of 2012 and one of the best games of the year.

Borderlands 2

borderlands-2.jpg

Borderlands 2 is a perfect sequel to the original. The game still has flaws, but Gearbox listened to fans of the original and made huge improvements. Cleaner menus, vastly superior storyline, better characters, hilarious writing, more weapons, and a much bigger environment to explore. The game has some of the most memorable characters (Tiny Tina anyone?) is increibly fun to play alone and with friends. Borderlands 2 is a must own.

There are still some other games I'm playing like Halo 4 and The Walking Dead, but I've yet to spend enough time with either. But so far, I believe both to be excellent games.

Some more honorable mentions for good or great games I played this year:

Need for Speed Most Wanted

Trials Evolution

Halo 4

The Walking Dead

Dishonored

Favourite system wars moments:

-Everything Shadowmoses and SNIPER4321 posted.

"Black Ops 2 is one of the greatest shooters I've ever played" - Shadowmoses

"PC multiplats only look slightly better than the console versions" - Shadowmoses

"Some random rant on corrupt mainstream media and how great Metro Last Light is with horrible grammar" - SNIPER4321

-Marveling at Freedomfreak's fine sigs and avatars

In the end, I think I will remember 2012 quite fondly. WHat were you're favourite moments and games?

Just picked up Fallout 3 GOTY

Just did some shopping the other day. Here's what I got:

I am curently playing through Operation Anchorage and enjoying it throughly. Most of my time has been spent exploring the wasteland and doing a quest once in a while. Needless to say, I'm going to be busy for a while.

Games I want to see at E3

This site is screwed up and won't let me post my blog that I want. Fuse was down yestreday, couldn't check my updates, and couldn't follow the games I wanted. But here are the games I have seen and loved and want to see at E3 this year:

Assassins Creed 3

Borderlands 2

Black Ops 2 (only because Treyarch is making some hefty changes to the formula)

Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3

Forza Horizon (one of my most anticipated)

Grand Theft Auto 5

Halo 4

Gears of War Judgement

Need for Speed Most Wanted (another of my most anticipated)

Simcity

Rock Band Blitz

Sleeping Dogs

Tomb Raider

Splinter Cell Blacklist

South Park game by Obsidian.

As the press conferences go, Microsft showed of Forza Horizon which is my highlight of the conference. Several new IP's were shown, kinect crap, and Halo 4 was shown off. The middle part was weaksauce, but the show started and ended pretty solid.

Didn't see any of the other conferences, but highlights of what I saw included Need for Speed Most Wanted and Crysis 3 from EA, Rayman Legends from Ubisoft, and New Super Mario Bros and Pikman 3 for Wii-U.

Did not see any of Sony's conference so I can't comment on anything I saw.

I wanted to put more detail into this blog, but this damn website feels like popping up a word censor error despite there being nothing to censor.

Rearranging my gaming schedule.

First, the weather's wild out there. Blizzard with thunder and lightning last night, and now most of the snow is all gone. Tonight, the wind is howling like hell out there. But damn this 2 days of bitter cold followed by rain pattern is getting stale.

And now some changes to my gaming lineup:

Battlefield 3 is gone

Modern Warfare 3 is also gone. Neither will be missed.

L.A Noire is now in the collection. Playing through as we speak.

Gears of War 3 is back to being my primary "Go to" game for online multiplayer action. GTA 4 is also coming back for online free-roam and another playthrough through The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Toy Soldiers Cold War and Saint's Row the third are still awesome and haven't come close to finishing either..

What's my next game? Nout sure, but Batman Arkham Asylum is at the top of my "must play" list. Red Faction Armageddon and Rayman need to go down in price but I absolutely will be purchasing them when the price is right.

Fox News Strikes Again.

What did Fox news say this time? A lot of things.

Tip for providing some advice for holiday gifts: Please get the name of the electronic device right!

Not into blogging, but here's a blog anyway.

I really haven't felt like doing any blogs in a long time so here's some things.

Forza 4- Everything outside World Tour is amazing. Rivals, Online, and the Event lists are addictive. The game has lots of cars and tracks. Looks and sounds great and Jeremy Clarkson is awesome. On the other hand, racing in the world tour makes me want to punch a hole through a wall. Damn AI.

Crysis- Amazing game that has gone unnoticed (in the console world). Not a single person on my friends list has the game. Looks great of course, but the open level design steals the show. Great shooting mechanics and good stealth although the game's first half is superior to the second half. Still a good game though.

Gears of War 3- I will be playing the Multiplayer for many months at least. Now I have got an addiction to Beast Mode. One of the best value packed games on the market to date.

Team Fortress 2- Yep, I've found something to delete on my computer so I would have enough storage space for Team Fortress 2. As for pricing, Valve already solved that problem. It's free.

21 years old.today.

It's my birthday today and I'm turning 21 years old.

So far, it's been a good day. Not much has happened, but I did recieve a fantastic game: Dirt 3. So far, I am loving this game. Codemasters make nothing but great racing games. Other genres, not so much. But their racing games are amazing. I have only screatched the surface and haven't tried the Youtube functionality yet, but I will have plenty of time ahead.

We'll be going to Boston Pizza later. It's relatively new, only a couple years old, but we've only been there once, so I thought it would be a nice change.

And of course this evening, birthday cake.

Well, that's how I'm spending my birthday.

Need some opinions on Oblivion

I'll keep this blog short and sweet.

I need some opinions on Oblivion. $20 at gamestop new and with the nice platinum hits packaging. I could use something to tide me over for the next 6 days while I wait for my Birthday. I need two questions answered:

What did you think of Oblivion?

Most importantly, is Oblivion good for someone who doesn't play many RPG's? Does the game have a good tutorial or do a good job of teaching the player the basics?

Thanks in advance.

Finished Portal 2 (No spoilers)

No, it's not the greatest game of this generation (in my opinion of course).

Now that I got that out of the way, Portal 2 is still an amazing game that still manages to feel unique in the current market. I going through the story for the second time and am appreciating the story, writing, characters even more so the second time through. Wheatley is brilliant, and constantly provides humour and Glados never fails to entertain. The puzzles are smartly designed and there is plenty of variety as the game adds new twists along the way. And the length feels really spot on, it doesn't outstay it's welcome. I have played the Co-op a bit. It's a neat twist on Portal, and the gestures are hilarious, but it doesn't feel as compelling to me as the Single Player.

But honesty, I am not great at puzzle games. I don't play many of them, but Portal is an exception. I got the Orange Box a couple years back and Portal was something I really dug. So, I wanted to play the sequel whenever it got released.

So in the end, I would probably give Portal 2 a solid 9/10.
