My top 10 games of 2009

Another year, another list of awesome games. I thought 2008 was the best yet in gaming, but this year somehow managed to top it. With next year looking just as good, I think it's safe to say we live in a golden age for gaming. 1) Uncharted 2 Simply put, one of the finest games ever made. Top notch visuals and voice acting, action packed gameplay and a story you can't turn away from. The characters and dialog are some of the best (and funniest) in gameing. There is a reason this game has won so many game of the year awards, everyone owes it to themselves to experience this game. 2) Killzone 2 Talk about listening to criticism, after a lackluster first outing for the series, Killzone 2 has improved upon it's predecessor in every way. Some of the best visuals I've ever seen, epic single player, story and multiplayer. This is the PS3's answer to Halo, and it lives up to that comparison. 3) Modern Warfare 2 Despite some controversies, this is one of the best shooters around. Epic single player and a multiplay that keeps on giving, you can't be disappointed in this game. 4) Halo 3: ODST While maybe not quite what all of us where hoping for, this is still a solid addition to the Halo series. The focus on the squad of ODST's refreshed this game and gave the best story since Halo 1. The awesome new co-op mode firefight and all the multiplayer content of Halo 3 just sweetened this already stellar pot. 5) Infamous Another awesome PS3 title. Open world gameplay, dozens of super powers, an awesome comic book inspired story and top notch production values are only a few of the things that make this game awesome. For anyone who's ever played a GTA game and wished they could electricity based superpowers to devastate your enemies (and who hasn't?) this is the game for you. 6) Assassins Creed 2 I was not a fan of the first AC, but this game made me love the series. Taking everything that people disliked about the first game and improving it, Ubisoft has created a truly amazing game. The tale of revenge through Renaissance Italy coupled with the modern battle between the Templars and Assassins make for a great story (that ends in a cliff hanger, again!). 7) Dirt 2 A sequel to one of my all time favorite racing games, how could I not love it. Adding features such as a restructured campaign, a rewind ability and a better story and multiplayer made this game even better. 8 ) Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Take the controls of CoD and the realism of the early Ghost Reacons, and you've got an idea of what this game is like. One of the most challenging yet satisfying shooter I've played. Top it off with a high degree of mission verity and freedom and some sweet visuals, and you have yourself a top notch shooter. 9) HAWX I've always loved flying games, so when a Tom Clancy branded fighter jet combat game came out, it was a dream come true. With fast paced action, over 50 planes, a good (if somewhat predictable) story and solid gameplay, I was not disappointed. 10) Halo Wars One of the only RTS's to control well on the console. Add in the fact that it's got a great story, solid gameplay and good production values, and you've got the best console RTS yet.

My top 10 games of 2008

Since we are into the new year now, I thought I'd make a list of all the best games (in my opinion) of 2008 which was probably one of the best years in gaming yet. Here we go.

10. Super Smash Bros: Brawl

One of the most pure fun games around, but still needs work on it's online play and to add something new.

9. God of War 2 + God of War: Chains of Olympus

I couldn't chose just one! Both these games are easily the best action games around and set the bar incredibly high.

8. GTA 4

The reason this game didn't make it higher on my list is because it lacks alot of the fun of previous installments, and sometimes felt more like a city simulator.

7. Grid

Grid pushed out burnout on my list becuse it is simply the most fun racing game I have ever played. With great production values and an awesome flash back feature Grid beat burnout by much more than a nose.

6. Call of Duty: World at War

I'm one of the few people who didn't mind going back to world war 2. The graphics, gameplay, campaign and multiplayer where all great and it had the voice of Kiefer Sutherland! If only the campaign was longer.

5. Resistance 2

One of the Best (and only) shooters on the PS3. Everything was improved from the original making for an intense game. Plus it has a great solo and co-op campaign and an awesome multiplayer mode.

4. Gears of war 2

Pretty much the same story as #5. It improved on an already amazing game and actualy had a story this time around.

3. Fallout 3

Made by the developer of one of my all time favorite games (oblivion), I had high expactations for this game, and it surpased them all. Everything about this game ozes quality. The dialogue is well writen, the capital waste land is beautiful and well dissigned and the story is amazing.

2. Dead space

One of the surprise hits for me. It was a close race between fallout and this for #2, but I had to give it to Dead Space because it was good enough that I've already played through it 5 times (and got 1000/1000 achievments, WOOT!). The graphics and art style are the best I've ever seen and the audio is simply terrifying. This game never stoped being scary even on multiple play throughs. And unlike many other horror games, its gameplay is just as good if not better than other action games.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4

The expectations for this game were astronomical, but some how, Kojima managed to not just deliver but to smash expectations. Everything about this game screams quality (and awesomeness). The graphics, gameplay, audio and everything else are simply amazing. But for me the most impresive featurethat so many games neglect is the story. MGS4 earns the title of being only the 2nd game to make me shed a tear (the 1st being MGS3). This is the game that made me buy a PS3, and I have no regrets. This isn't only the top game of 2008, it's the best game I have ever played.
