She stood there, holding the roses. And trembling. Emotions pumped through her heart with every beat.
Pain. Sorrow. Anger. Anguish. Fear.
Her heart broken, she sat the roses on the mound of dirt and grass. She did not leave, she only stared at the headstone that sprouted from the ground. Her emerald eyes scanned the depressing scene, watching every little leaf that fell past the polished rock and landed on the ground. Finally her eyes fell on the engraved words on the stone.
Sonic the Hedgehog
The Hero of Light, who Saved Us All.
May his soul find its way to the beyond. Bless him.
Rest in Peace, Legend.
She sighed.
Her hero and heart lay here, in the ground. Out of reach. Out of soul. Out of sanity. He had departed to another world, one that she knew she'd not reach anytime near the future. Or at least she hoped.
She could still remember his cocky smile, his perfect physique, and his lively jade eyes.
But what she kept seeing was how he looked at the time of his passing.
His smile had faded, his body crumpled, broken, and bloody. And his eyes...
Lifeless. They hadn't held the playful sheen she always loved. That memory haunted her, even now, months after his death.
This was the first time she'd visited his grave. In fact, this was the first time she'd been outside since the departure. She'd locked herself in her house, no outside contact, isolated from the world. She'd shut the blinds in her room, throw herself on the bed, and cried.
Cried until she couldn't feel anymore.
The pink hedgehog did not move from that spot, until now. She knew deep in her heart of hearts, that she had to be here. She did not attend the funeral back then, she knew she'd only be a nervous wreck, and her sobs would cover up the minister's words.
She was surprised she wasn't crying now.
A frown was etched on her face, however. Amy had not smiled ever since the moment her hero was down.
With solemn eyes, she kneeled before the Legend's grave, and sighed. Although her voice cracked when she spoke, she paid no mind, and only continued.
"Sonic...I know that I should've came here sooner, but...you know I couldn't, right? I'm sure you understand..."
She placed a hand on the mound of dirt.
"I always thought it'd be me first, to be honest...." she whispered.
"But now that I think about it...it only seems real that you'd be down there, and me up here, and not the other way around. You were a reckless guy, weren't ya?" In spite of herself, she smiled, thinking about the dangerous adventures he'd went on in his lifetime, without a care in the world, grinning all the way. He was so brave, even in his final moments...
She remembered it so clearly, even after attempting to block it out again and again....
Images flashed through her mind at this moment:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Him sprinting towards the fleet of alien creatures, a look of pure anger on his face.
Her screaming for him to come back, tears flowing like a waterfall.
Him punching the life out of many of the lifeforms, all except for one.
The large creautre smacking him against the wall, and pinning him to the ground.
Her running towards the monster, hammer in tow, planning to set him free.
Him screaming at her to stop, and not to get herself hurt.
Her screaching to a halt.
The alien punching and smaking him senseless, him taking each blow.
Her begging him to let her help, only to have him deny it.
And finally, the alien impaleing him through the stomach, and dropping him to the ground.
Her screaming.
Him falling.
Her running.
Him coughing.
Her crying.
Him smiling.
Her holding.
Him holding.
Her kissing.
Him returning.
Her pain.
His love.
Her brokeness.
His words.
He loved her.
She loved him.
And he left her there, leaving the girl he loved, and a broken heart behind.
By this time now, she was softly sobbing, laying on top of the grave.
"Ohh...Sonic...why?" She cried. "Why did you have to leave me alone here without you? You should know I can't stand to be alone...! Why did you leave me?! WHY?!" Amy cried her poor little heart out, tears soaking her soft muzzle. She always thought of him to be immortal, and that he'd never leave her.
That silly dream had been shattered now.
No one was immortal.
Not even a brave, strong, and amazing hero like Sonic.
The darkness only deepened as rain began to pour on the world. She used to care about the rain. She used to worry about it ruining her outfits. But she didn't care anymore.
She'd never care again.
And so, the girl layed there in the rain, continuing to cry, cursing the world, cursing that alien that took her love away from her, and cursing the six feet of earth that seperated her from her Fallen Legend.
