@TommyT456 Wrong wrong wrong... I will say it again... WRONG... Sony has not OUTSOLD Microsoft... It has OUTSHIPPED, meaning it has MANUFACTURED and SHIPPED more consoles than Microsoft to be sold... This data is not evident of SALES, but PRODUCT SHIPPED...
I don't care if you work in the gaming industry or if you have all the consoles... Your attitude is poor, likely biased and based on unfounded statements...not facts...
@TommyT456 @monson21502 In matter of fact, the PS3 has NOT outsold the XBox360, but it has OUTSHIPPED the XBox360...Consoles shipped does NOT equate to how successful the console was...
And no, MS STILL has exclusives...One of it's greatest successes is Minecraft (granted, PC first, but in the console world its making a huge splash). Others are of course, Halo, Forza, Gears of War...currently I can't think of others that are specifically exclusive, but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works...
@roosteraxe1 You as well seem to be delusional, or were you not affected by Sony's on beloved "Yellow light of death" or the "ApocalPS3" that took place mutliple times... The Cell Processor is much more advanced than the Xenon processor in the 360. The Xenon is a Triple Core processor where the Cell is a 8 Core processor... Stop throwing the "$" at the initials of MS and put it where it belongs... at the amount of money you pour into your console... Both MS and Sony are there to make money and provide experiences. MS didn't steal from Sony, otherwise their system would have come out the same time as the PS3.
Something that a lot of people seem to forget is how Sony stated back when the PS3 was in it's initial marketing phase was how "The PS3 will have a 10 year life cycle" meaning it wouldn't need to see an upgrade until 2015...yet, here we are, awaiting their new offering.
I for one, hope Sony does right by their fans and loyal consumers and doesn't screw up with the next PS like they almost completely did with the PS3. They over-promised and under-delivered in many areas. Don't believe me?
Hear it from the horse's mouth: http://youtu.be/OtZ-rK349aY
They also need to beef up their own online service, and I am sorry, make it paid only, it makes sense. Customers will pay for security and guarantee that their accounts wont be hacked and their servers will be online. Sure XBox has had a few downtimes, but NOTHING like Sony's...
The PS3 was Sony's last ditch effort to save the company due to a major screw-up involving spyware on a large portion of audio cd's back in the late 90's-mid 2000's. Now they are in a better financial position to deliver something amazing to consumers. They need to make smart moves without having to worry about what MS is doing. They weren't concerned about Sega when the Dreamcast had a lead on it, were they? And look how well the PS2 did (despite it's many hardware problems).
I sold my PS3 and PSP JUST so I could buy Halo 4 and Borderlands 2 for the 360... I am usually against selling my systems or games because I want to hand them down to my children as they grow... But I wouldn't be caught dead selling my XBox 360 or even OG Xbox... I loved my PS3 when I played it, but it didn't captivate me like XBox did. It did a lot of things right, like better video support for streaming from PC or Mobile. Being a Blu-Ray player was NOT enough...Having "better graphics" was not enough... If it played all my ps2 and ps1 games, I would have kept it... but it didn't. I got burnt out of it, and I want to believe the next PS will be better.
Sony needs us, and if we take our FANBOY pants off, we can see the real problems here with Sony. The PS3 was good, not great. It could have been so much more, and I hope that the next gen PS will make right where Sony failed to deliver. Don't get me wrong, I have deep fears that the successor to my beloved XBox 360 will leave out something 360 related... Backwards compatability is a HUGE must for BOTH players, and if XBox Live and PSN aren't cross-platform (PS3-PS4, XBox 360-XBox 720) then I might have to hang up my hat on gaming as a whole...
@phoenix5352 You are truly delusional. The REAL reason why PS3 had more exclusives is because it was the 3RD iteration of the PS brand, which means it carried its exclusive IP's from the first 2 consoles. XBox came out in the middle of PS's lifetime, therefor only having a precious few mascots to represent it...
When I think Sony, I think of Crash Bandicoot, Siphon Filter, Tomb Raider, ICO, Tekken, Resident Evil, Legacy of Kain, Tony Hawk, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, Ratchet and Clank, Medievil, Twisted Metal, God Of War, Sly Cooper, ...(Final Fantasy and Metal Gear were Nintendo Names first, sorry)
On the other hand, when I think about XBox, I think of Halo, Forza, Oddworld, Splinter Cell, Dead or Alive (despite being on ps2 first) Ninja Gaiden (though also a Nintendo Original), Fable, Mass Effect, Gears of War,
Sony has been in the (pardon the pun) Game longer, so they have a HUGE back catalog of either OLD IP's or IP's that have been thriving since the first PS. The hardware in the PS3 is SUPPOSEDLY vastly superior to the XBox 360 in every way, yet was never fully tapped potential so now it is something that relies heavily on differentiating itself because of its exclusives. And their exclusives are geared more towards us grown ups who are more into the more modern and realistic gameplay types.Other than that, their Graphical capabilities are easily matched by XBox 360 in every way that hardly differ.
So make a real, educated FACT driven comment next time, rather than some unfounded statement. System Specs don't make the game... the DEVELOPERS and FANS make the game... (cough*the bouncer*cough) Graphics aren't everything.
This is a very well-written article, and I agree with GamerYnox to a point... I don't think that the big 3 are every going to "drop" out of the race, but I do think that the portable, app based games have potential to upstage their console counterparts... case and point? Shadow gun vs Gears of War... Definately a highly detailed portable game, very fun and quality gameply but still leaves a lot to be desired. While I really don't see gaming graphics getting much better, I do see better systems with improved functionality a liklihood over improved graphics... But games like MW3, BF3, Forza 4, Assassin's creed, Gears of War 3, Skyrim, Uncharted 3, GT 5....? It doesn't get much better than that. If anything, when/if a next gen PS or Xbox DOES come out, I see the graphics getting a little better (read GTA IV Ultra Real Mod) and less stress being put on the hardware, and better cross-tech support (i.e. streaming, apps, etc) I do see alot of the peripheral-based motion control going away though, so bye bye PS Move and Wii-Mote and Nunchuk... Kinect could still yet use some work, and I have all of them and I still use Kinect more for dictating to my xbox what to do than I do with motion gaming, but when I do use motion gaming, Kinect works the best for me... There are already many advances with Kinect that have been made in the Dev community both for entertainment and real-world application, so I see it staying around. One thing that I can almost guarentee, not so much cloud based, but the fading away of physical media... something like steam, where a brand new blockbuster is released for on demand the same DAY as the physical disc would be. But then again, this is simply my prediction.
