I had always trusted gamespot in their reviews. Well i gave them some credit.
But until recently, I just gave up on them.
Now before this turns into the stereotypical rant that goes on System Wars, I have to point out a few things that seem wrong with they way Gamespot reviews their games.
ok,
PDZ. 9.0.
The game is ok, but does it really deserve a 9.0? It was one of the first titles in the next gen platforms and reviewers got excited over it cause of the improved visuals over the previous generation of consoles. It was nothing extraordinary.
Halo 3. 9.5
They really went overboard with this one. I agree, it is an ok FPS, it holds a better story line than most of the FPS out there. but there are major technical difficulties with the game. First of all it doesn't even really run in HD. It runs at 640p. By today's standards that's not acceptable. Specially for a major franchise title. Second of all, it doesn't add much to what Halo 2 was. A few more weapons, which was expected, and a few minor additions here and there. It didn't revolutionize in any way, yet it was praised and praised by the GS staff.
And why didn't anyone mention anything about the frame rate drop? WTF? it happens so often in the game. Loading....Done. Checkpoint....Done. it drops in framerate every time. Yet nothing was said about that. Also, the flawed Melee system is just a joke. I've died many times because of that, and it gets annoying sometimes.
Now what really went on with R&C?
It deserved more than that. 7.5. WTF?
" So many different, often unnecessary gameplay mechanics that the game lacks an identity" ok, so diversity is bad? if it was a different game you would go on saying, ohh there's so many little details that make R&C a great game. It is well designed and polished to the very detail.
and it's not really only about this game. Resistance was an amazing title. The first time I got home with my PS3 and hooked it up via HDMI I was like "Damn, look at the graphics"
And what about the graphics comparison they did with multiplat game. They put the PS3 running over component cables and at 720p. when clearly they should have done it with both consoles' maximum capacities. And some screenshots looked fishy. Pictures taken off the screen with my digital camera looked better than those taken with a video capture card.
well, i have to go to school so i'll stop right here. Comment and tell me what you think. I'm pretty sure I make sense in all of this.
