PC gaming is dead...sort of...

It's been a while since anyone has brought up the whole PC gaming is dead debate - mainly cuz the numbers have shown it isn't actually dead, just falling behind the consoles. I'd like to rekindle the debate but with a different twist - PC gaming isn't dead, just neglected. We get games later and from the looks of it, we seem to be missing out on exclusive deals too (like pre-order deals or collector's editions). Unfortunately for PC gamers like me, games that would've traditionally held their own in PC territory 5 years ago like FPS's are now migrating to consoles and either staying there or taking their time coming over to the PC. In addition to this, those games that do get ported over are sometimes half arsed making a PC gamer's life just that little more crap. Gaming news sites seem to have naturally followed the trend - games that get released simultaneously for the console and the PC are reviewed at two different times usually with the console version taking priority with the PC review coming weeks down the track. That certaintly doesn't help PC gamers one bit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a console hater, I own several and do enjoy them very much but some games just don't feel right on the console. A little part of me dies when yet another shooter gets exclusive rights to a console with no PC version in sight. One may argue that Gears of War is the perfect example of a console to PC port that didn't sell well but those of you who say that seem to have forgetten the fact that the PC version of GoW was riddled with issues - a crappy port. Games like WoW or The Sims may be keeping the PC on the map but that might actually make PC gaming worse. If developers see the PC as nothing but an MMOPRG or casual gaming platform then you'll find that the PC is now being restricted to a minimal amount of genres. Unfortunately, PC gaming will never be what it used to be. It's definitely not dead right now, probably not dying but with the growing number of console only exclusives in comparison to PC exclusives (name one famous PC only exclusive released in the past 2 years that wasn't Crysis or one of the WoW expansions....didn't think so - Orange Box doesn't count - it was released for the consoles too) it's definitely taking a hit and like I said right at the beginning, there can't be any doubt it's being neglected. I fear that eventually games that are being released late for the PC won't get released at all - what's happening with Alan Wake right now is a great example. In the end, it's a numbers game and console games will make more money. EDIT: Heh, want more proof? There will be no hardened or prestige editions of Modern Warfare 2 for the PC. Thanks guys, we enjoyed being the ones who helped your franchise grow, feel free to not give us any recognition in return...jeez.
