PS3's year will come, starting next month.

Now we all know how well Nintendo did with their DS (also DSi) and the top dog of gaming console (well units sold) the Wii. Microsoft's Xbox 360 did well too. Sure there were (and still are) problems with the 360 itself. But all the great exclusives keep the sales up. But what about the PS3? 2008 was supposed to be it's year. The PS3 was supposed to be number 1.

Well that's all in the past now. I see a great future for the PS3 in 2009. Why? Well you can't complain that the PS3 is the most powerful gaming system out of the three (hardware hardware hardware). It uses what is now the best High Definition disk format out there (for all you slow learners out there I give you two words, Blue Ray). But why didn't all of that do so well in 2008? Well for one Blue Ray. It's a lot more expensive to use the Blue Ray disk for games compared to the standard one's used in the 360. And you have to remember that the Blue Ray format came out at the same time as the PS3. Which was very risky. I mean. Sony tried starting their own format before (Anyone remember BetaMax?) though it didn't do as well as Blue Ray. So to start selling a system that costed 700 and 1000 at the time that used a format that no one even knew if it was that great or not was risking A LOT.

But the Blue Ray HDDVD war is over. With Blue Ray out as the champion. This alone will help the PS3. But surely this wasn't the ONLY reason PS3 had flopped in '08. Exclusives. Haze, Lair, and a few others at the time didn't do so well. The idea was good, but the gameplay and stories were lackluster. Most of the games that were good and should have been a PS3 exclusive became exclusives no longer (DMC4 as well as FFXIII). That's not going to help PS3 much. If the games that ARE good also goes to the 360, which is way better than spending 400 dollars on a console that only had about 4 games that are worth playing, then why would anyone feel the need to get the PS3?

Well that is, until Snake and the little hacky-sack dolls from the world of Little Big Planet came along. Those two alone made Sony a good amount of cash (also with PS3's not costing so much to make, well you get the idea). Resistance was great. Though not preferred over Halo3 at the time. Resistance 2 popped it's head with a fiery explosion. I wasn't a fan of Resistance. It felt as if something was missing. But once 2 came around you can tell, that something is most definitely there. There are plenty of game coming around that are also worth 2 360's. Killzone2, God of war 3, FFXIII (I realize that it is coming out for the 360, but honestly, which one do you think it'd look better on?). There's a few others I'm sure I'm missing but I think that's enough examples.

By the time December 25, 2009 comes around I think the Wii, 360, PS3 order will change to something like Wii, PS3, 360 (you have to agree, Wii will most likely still be selling). Unless Microsoft comes up with another gaming system within the next year, say bye bye to that silver medal, here comes PS3 with a bunch of new exclusives.
