So, here are some news i heard latelly. No dead space 2 for pc as far as ea is concerned :( Just cause 2 will require vista or win7. No xp:cry:...but why? Its not necessary its a console port, and it has insane requirements. I wanna obliderate to cosmic dust whoever is responsible for this. Crysis 2 will take place on new york city. Good i guess, also mafia 2 developers claim that their game is gonna be the best looking open world game with the most destruction. I wanna see that happening. Anyway i am excited for mafia 2 and bad company 2, also avp3. I dont care what the critics say as long the game is good.
Here are some games i have been playing lately:
Manhunt
Manhunt is a 3rd person adventure/stealth/shooter. Focusing on violence, if you are a fan of films like SAW and other violent stuff, you might like this. I picked this game because i wanted to play something diffirent. At the beginning i thought that the game is just an excuse of a game with violence rather a solid game. I was wrong. There is definetly alot of gameplay in manhunt. The compaign itself is more impressive than most games nowadays. You take the role of someone who is convicted to death penalty. Turns out he is alive in a abandonded part of the city. (well its not clear wherever you are in a city or in an island) So here you are roaming at the dark and desolated urban enviroments of the game while there are cameras and a director is filiming you killing violently various gangs and thugs.
Not much of a story and it is unclear wherever the director is also the prison warden. Anyway, you start with nothing and you are moving in the dark alleys and this ruined enviroments. Your first contact with gang members will be sneaky and easy. The first gang members are weak and stupid. Then they get tougher, stronger, smarter and much more difficult. In the begining you got no weapons, so you will use a plastic bag to choke someone by putting it on his head and not letting him breath. Ofcourse that has to be done from behind so you wont get seen. The stealth system is simple. You can hide in the shadows. It does not matter how close the enemy is, if you are sitting under a shadow, you character is invisible. Simple mechanic but they got to make the game more playable right? If someone sees you, they chase you and your radar has a radious in which your enemy knows where you are, if you get out of the radious then you can hide. If not then you can go to a dark area but you are still glowing red. In the begining its very easy, you hit the wall and the ai investagates, you go down the stairs and exit from the single door the room has, and the ai does not even know where you went!!! Thats right, they dont even bother getting outside the room. But latter it becomes hard and complicated. You gonna have to play it slowly and seperate the enemies form one each other. You can also throw items to distract the ai!!
There is a huge sense of progress in the game, not only on the compaign missions but in weapons and enemies. In the begining you got disposable weapons that can be used only in stealth. Like plastic bags or glass shards. Later you get knifes and baseball bats and various other meele weapons. You even progress by killing tougher thugs and getting more violent weapons or ranged based weapons like the famous nail gun, that launches for construction purpuses. Sadly no headshots and it has limited range:( But you can blow up explosive barrels while in shadows. Silently confusing enemies!! There are also guns later on, like revolvers, shotguns, pistols, sawed off, trangulizer rilfes, sniper rilfes, auto shotguns, smgs, pistols, assault rilfes, heavy pistols. Well there are enough guns to in the game that it could might as well be a fps!! Also its a long game and every missions has a theme. In the begining you kill some gangs in urban areas with crap weapons. Later you are inside a junkyard with gangs that paint their faces and use more severe weapons, later you are inside a zoo and the enemies are dressed up like commandos and got more apropriate weapons, hell even later you are in a ruined mall with enemies that look like clowns and carry revolvers and sawed offs. Borderlands, fallout 3, rage anyone? Ofcourse later on the game has objectives in the missions and not just killing. Later you are at an asylum with crazy enemies, it can get kinda scary. There is more to manhunt thann that. Eg: there is a poor coversytem while in gunfights and you can hold down the attack buttong while in stealthy executions and the reticle will turn yellow and red, that means more violent executions if you like violence ofcourse. There is even a meele fight system with heavy and weak attacks plus block and grab. But you mainly uset stealth and not fight in meele like condemned.
Later in the game you get into a mansion and have to get past numerous swat units, at that point it gets pretty rough.Overall its a very solid game with extras such as unlockables and challenges and guess whats the last weapon in such a violent game? THE CHAINSAW!!! I give it 8.5 and the funny thing is i dont even liked it in beginining!! I heard there i manhunt 2 on pc, so i wil also get it.
I think it will be nice if there was a new manhunt game with next gen graphics and decapacitations plus scary lighting and theme!!
Call of juarez bound in blood
I played the first and it was....good. The second focuses totally on gunfights. You got two characters and you choose with which one you wanna play at each chapter, no coop. The first can carry a gun and a rilfe, which he is pretty accurate, also he can use a bow and throw knives, he can climb on stuff and use his rope to climb on higher..."stuff" The second can use 2 pistols at the same time and he has a bulletproof armor and he can kick doors. Both can use an abillity that they automaticly shoot every enemy with their guns. At the begining the game starts in the famous North vs South war in US. It plays mostly as an arcade shooter with many enemies and not much to do apart from killing and killing.Later the game picks up with bigger enviromens and some sort of gta-far cry 2 bigger areas with sidemissions to do a bit exploration and shops in which you can buy new guns with the money you collect from enemies. Sadly that idea was not used much. Just 2 chapters that you can do those. The game after a few chapters plays like an adventure game with horseriding and some impressive level design.
Sadly i could not find a good pic right now, but the point is that the game has big non linear areas, hell there are some towns that are open and look like they came from a gta type game, so unlike other linear games, like cod4, this game does not block your paths by using vehicles or rocks at the exit points. However you must stay on mission or you will fail the mission. What is good about the game is the story, its really good, i am amazed how nowdays you can see such a good story. Also its even better if you played the first one first and you connect the dots on what exactly lead to the events of the first since this game is a prequel. What is bad? For one the game has a stupid fov that does not alows you to see too far. So sometimes you constantly look around to see what is around you, thanks to this zoomed perspective the characters have . Also the game has mouse accelaration which makes aiming very frustating and for those 2 things i did not enjoy it much and it looses fps points from me. Also every boss battle is a dual that you get a side camera in which you have to move left and right to keep the camera in a way that the enemy is on the middle and you can use your mouse to guide your hand to the holster and draw your gun when the bell rings. Was that necessary? Well it does not work very well on pc, it feels like drawing is kinda broken. I tried used a gamepad but it seems the game detects only a x360 like controller and not a ps2 like!!
However overal it was a good game, i finished it in about 7 hours according to my savegame.Overall a nice game but it could be better in fp terms, so 8.0 will be fine.
Batman Akham Asylum
Suprisingly good game. Batman AA is based on the comic and not the movie. What makes Batman AA shines? Everything actually. The graphics are amazing. The port is amazing and it perfoms amazingly well. The game is flawless. The game starts with batman taking joker back to the asylum. Things go to hell and the joker is free. Now batman must travel in various ares of arkham asylum and defated various villians to get to joker. The story? Well a batman game cant have good story, but the way its done is very impressive. It basicly feels all necessary holes needed to create a nice compaign from story side. You got someone talking to you on the radio, you got many good and bad characters plus some memorable moments. In the begining you have to either punch enemies in the face or sneak when they got guns, you can use the grappling hook to get to a higher ground and glide down on them and dispose them, Or you can sneak behind them. Not to worry though becase the game is very simplified, sneaking and fighting is done by the press of a few buttons. Later on you get exp and upgrae your abillities so you dont need to run anymore. Combat is fun and the atmosphere in the asylum is amazing.
Apart from that the gameplay has exploring and collecting various items and tapes that tell you more about the characters, also there are some riddles to be solved that give you more info on DC based characters. You also got various gadgets such as the famous batrang and other stuff like a explosive gel that explodes when you use the detonator or a line gun that gets you across long distances in high postitions and a hacking gadget that opens doors. Most of those items are upgrades that you get later in order to get acess to items you could not get before. Also we got the detective view which is somewhat similar to x ray vission and it gives you also the info you need on how to approach the situation.
The question is, does the game get repettive? Well to be honest i wouldnt say that there is too much stealth on the game, as a matter of fact it could use more. Also you re visit the same areas but still not repettive. The only thing that is both repetive and bad is the bossfights, in those fights you have to dodge attacks from a big enemy and ride him to kill the rest, it gets kinda repettive after a while. If anything needs improvement is the bossfights that need to be more complicated.
Yup you are right, why so serious? I am just saying that Batman AA is one of those games that you enjoy so much, no matter if you like what its about or not. You know, like those old games back then....
Anyway, the poison Ivy fight was diffirent and beter, but after that it felt like the developers rushed to the end and to the joker bossfight. Same dissapointing feeling as bionic commando. Overall an amazing game but the last part was quite dissapointing, and when i was like "Yay i am gonna finnish batman AA"...i was like" yay i just finished...batman AA, oh well whatever what else i got on my pc to play:|...."
Thats right i did not even bother with the challenges. Anyway i will hope to see Batman AA 2 soon, this time i hope the last part is a good as the rest of the game. Ooops, i forgot to mention that there is the scarecrow in the game and the last bossfight with him is a pretty disturbing moment that almost gave me a heart attack.. godamn you Rocksteady!!!:o
Click here to see what happened: [spoiler] So here you are walking around the asylum, playing the game and the sound gets screwed up and then the screen gets screwed up and you think that the game got broken and you pc is fried and then you see the intro of the game, but joker is driving the car and you play as joker and the immates have taken control of the asylum and they have captured batman. Then joker shoots batman and the following message appears:" game over, hint press middle mouse button to dodge jokers bullet and retry" Then i click retry and batman gets up from his grave and he is in a scarecrow's nightmare!!! [SPOILER/]
Godamn it, dont pull stuff ike that in the next game, you gonna kill me!!! Anyway, still one of the best games in the generation with true quality, i give it a 9.0 out of 10!!
