The expansion is exactly why I didn't play the raid over and over, because I had a feeling the new gear would make everything obsolete. I finished it 4 or 5 times, and didn't get any of the gear and gave up on it.
Having played at least 15 hours of the game, not counting the time I spent in the alpha and beta, I can't disagree with much in this review. I'm still enjoying the game and will continue to play it, but it's kinda disappointing. The storytelling is sad, there's no context given for anything at all. And reading their silly little "grimoire" cards on the site doesn't add anything. The loot and leveling systems seem like they're half finished, and the 3 person fireteams are too small. It's an awesome foundation that I really hope gets better with expansions or future games in the series.
I didn't find the Devil Walker part as boring as Kevin and Shaun did. On my second playthrough of the strike mission we took it out pretty quickly. Granted each player was at a slightly higher level, but actually using tactics and focusing on the Walker's legs lets you destroy it really quickly, felt like it couldn't have been more than a minute or two.
Just finished the expansion, mostly agree with Kevin's review. Definitely took me longer than 90 minutes to complete but I also explored every corner because I love the franchise. I did think it was fairly mediocre though, the story doesn't really go anywhere and his point about Booker suddenly knowing how to utilize the tears is accurate, that kinda bugged me too.
I will be getting one eventually but I'm getting tired of MS people saying it's "hard to explain" why the system is so awesome. You can't say that it will "change everything" without telling us how.
