Gaming Field Profession, reality and fiction.

Hello friends :) Wonderful blog title no?,

I have been having countless thoughts on the future lately. Today on my last day of Health Class, my teacher asked us to raise our hand if we had our future career already planned out. I raised my hand, thinking "Video Game Industry." You're already thinking "Oh great, another one of THESE kind of dreams." :P

I've had this dream growing up ever since I could think about what I wanted to do in life, probably again like many of you, but after reading a specific thread on this exact website about how horrible that the industry really was and that the pay was not worth the time. My dream came to an end, I gave it up, and after 3 long years of indecisiveness about my career path, I've noticed that a degree in Business (economics, administration, etc.), I could end up almost Anywhere.

Is my dream an illusion

I'm feeling as if my future will be just an illusion, shadowing the failure I will endure.

That's when it hit me, just previously today, I brought back my dream of going into the Video Game Industry, but now its a little bit different. I would be getting degrees, majoring in Business Economics and minoring Business Administration (or possibly Game Development) so I can get into Sales and Marketing. That way if my countless applications into the gaming field fail, I can still get a casual job with basically infinite options on where.

I just downloaded the free series of The Tester, where Playstation has chosen 10 (or 11) individuals to compete for one job as a Sony Game Tester. I found that kind of depressing to see, where the thousand people that could've had potential and they only hire one person, I understand "they are looking for the best." but only one job, all those who fail might as well just go look for another company, you know? Well, I came to a conclusion that there are millions of companies out there, most of them start out with small projects like on Wiiware and they are all looking for fresh young creative faces so in return, more chance of a job and get to see a small company grow into a Sega.

On a side note, I have also considered getting into Journalism, specifically gaming. Yeah, the English department as you can see is not my critique, so I'm in for a very large rude awakening. :P But examples of this include GameSpot of course, :P Even though I think I got a few too many moderations (all warnings, don't worry) to get a job  , IGN and Game Informer. This career choice would be the most changing, changing my major, since I don't think a minor would get me the job. :P

In conclusion, I would say that I am very clueless about my future right now and I am up for any "Constructive Criticism" any of you have to offer, even if it does give me an epiphany. :P Are you in the same boat as me? Hit me up in the comments :)
