Now Playing: Killzone 3

Welp, I've been playing Killzone 3 for the last couple of nights, and I'm extremely impressed so far. Visually, the game is as stunning as a game in 720p can be. I haven't had any framerate issues at all when playing multiplayer, and the game is very smooth for the intense visuals.

So far, I've limited myself to multiplayer. I've maxed out my Marksman tree (except for the last two secondaries), and I've starting putting the Medic to work. I love both of the classes so far, and they provide a complete 180 from each other. Beyond them, I will probably go Tactition, because no one seems to know how to steal anything. The classes are fun, although the weapons do have limitations. Overall, the game gets by with just a handful of weapons to choose from, but an expansion that includes new weapons to choose from would add to the game after a month+ of serious play.

The best part of the multiplayer experience thus far has to be the maps. There are eight new maps, plus two retro maps available, and each is done in a way that promotes multiple game styles. On top of that, the maps are different sizes depending on the game type, and that provides yet another level of experience.

Corinth Highway, a map dedicated to the lovers of ranged gameplay, is a favorite of mine when using my Marskman skills. Equipped with the 1-shot-1-kill sniper rifle, I've gone 12 kills and 4 deaths or better on this map with great consistency. For players that are not holding a giant barrel with a scope on it, there are side alleys that provide great alternates to dodging 50 caliber sniper bullets while sprinting through the middle of the map.

Kaznan Jungle is another favorite, and the map is starting to gain popularity when voting. This map is divided into an upper and lower ground, and allows gameplay to happen in very different ways. I normally take my Medic with an SMG into this map and live in the bright red tunnels that lead you to different areas on the map. Using proximity minds, I protect my back while mowing through enemies and reviving teammates. Having that self-revive is a great help here as well for when you get shot and the killer forgets to double tap the Medic... that is Rule #2 after all... This map is especially fun when you play with a good team that enjoys in-your-face combat. If you can secure the ammo depots in the tunnels, the action is limited only by your ability to get kills.

I'm going to be posting a review of the game, but I want to give the single player a full playthrough first. Since I've gotten a PS3 again, I've had some ideas for what I'd like to snag a platinum on, and KZ3 is a definite contender. There are a lot of trophies, but they don't seem to be the most difficult to get. For those that are into that kind of thing, it should at least be a rental for a couple playthroughs (elite and easy) and for a break from your multiplayer game of choice; mine was MAG, but it looks like KZ3 will take its place until SOCOM 4 takes control of my life. I'm also grabbing move and a sharpshooter when my tax return gets here. I'll let everyone that is a bit skeptic know how that is. I played with a kid last night that was consistently placing above my 2.0 k/d, and even overshadowing my 11 and 1 games, etc... all with a sharpshooter. Sounds like a fun thumb-break to me.

If you are playing... or if you want a PS3 friend that plays a good number of games, add me:
